How do they teach children to read in Edinburgh primary schools?

DS is in pre-school just now and is starting to show an interest in reading. He keeps telling me how sad he is that he can't read and gets us to read a story to him so he can then 'read' it back to us

While I'm not on a mission to teach him to read and will just keep on reading with him, I'm curious about what kind of system they use in schools here. I couldn't find anything useful on the Council's website.

I'm quite happy to teach him some letters if he's really interested but don't want to explain them in a completely different way than they will do when he starts school.

The majority of schools do jolly phonics and the Oxford Reading Tree.

You can get some great jolly phonics stuff from ELC - the letter sounds CD is useful to make sure you are saying them properly. (I wasn't)

I got DS a box set of oxford reading tree books which were great - you could use them now as they started at pre-school stage. DS (P2) still reads them now
