Senior schools

Hello does anyone have any knowledge of a senior school with a Hearing Unit in it. I notice on the ISI website that St Marys school does but when I looked at their prospectus it doesnt mention it, so thinking it might be out of date info on ISI. My DS has mild sensorineural hearing loss but it fluctuates as she is prone to moderate conductive hearing loss as fluid builds up in her ears, she wears a hearing aid. she has been identified as having SPLD and we maybe getting a statement for her, the the LEA are in the process of assessment.

Cottenham Village College certainly used to (child from near here used to be taxied there daily) but I'm not sure if it still does. It would be worth an enquiry at least.

I think Sawston Village College does.

Ah, thanks Choccy -- though I think the OP may be meaning private schools, having re-read, in which case I'm no help at all!

Definitely cottenham - my friend is the specialist hearing teacher there

Thanks you guys i will have more of a look into both of those although am not technically in catchment so mabe no can do.. I had a quick look at the cottenham website and noticed The Centre School for children with social and emotional behavioural difficulties.. Would they take SpLD children which are not having difficulties with social or emotional out to teach them there for some subjects what do you think or know.

Well, friend's child was certainly not in catchment (by a good 18 miles!). I'd phone or email the school and ask. Is your child statemented, as that makes a huge difference?

(I have one child taxied to a school 15 miles away and one who attends a different out of catchment school, so this may not be a barrier.)

yes we are mid assessment sort of.. LEA refussed to assess at first and we appealed and a date for tribunal has been set, however had a meeting with LA and they are sending in their hearing specialist to see DS... so although they have not agreed outright to assess I am fingers crossed and hoping we wont have to go to tribunal.
