Hello everyone. I have just discovered this section. I was wondering if anybody our there might be able to give me some information on The mead. Thanks a lot!

Can't really help other than to say that a friend has her son there and is very happy with it. I understand that it's friendly, not massively selective in terms of looking for very academic children (by which I mean no London style entrance 'exams' for 4 yr olds!), and has a good reputation.

That does help PanicMode, at last I hear something positive about that school! Smile
Anyone else? Smile Smile

I have a daughter at The Mead - we are very happy with it and she loves her school . Is there anything in particular you wanted to know?

I've got two kids there, it's a lovely school.
Small classes, great teachers, parents are really nice etc.
I can't recommend it enough.

The Mead has been a fantastically welcoming school and my children are so happy there - they have settled, are enjoying their work, and have made good friends. At a recent transition meeting the point was made that the teachers really know the children and I thought, yes, that's right; they really do.

Hi! I realise this is an old thread but I've recently moved to TW and I am considering The Mead for September, my DS would go into Y4 and my DD into Y1. I am not finding any 'unofficial' information so if you're still around Manondessources, svenskmum and Hopeoverexperience, I'd love to know more. I am interested in the academic level, whether there's differentiated work for the most able, if a lot of time is wasted on transport because they don't have the sports facilities that other schools have and also, if the clubs and music tuition has to be paid separately from the fees. Thank you all.

HI
My 3 children are at the Mead and we love it. Its an extremely friendly welcoming school and my children love going there. Im pretty new to the area myself so I cant give you the low down from years of experience but academically my DD's reading has improved beyond recognition since attending. My impression is that differentiated work is entirely standard for them in the sense that they have a big focus on treating each child as an individual and small class sizes allow them to work with each child according to ability.
I dont really get all this about them not having the sports facilities that other schools have. I moved down from London where we had 450 children playing in an area that was half as big as the Mead's grounds- and the Mead has half that number of children. They have 3 playgrounds, a gym and a sports field. I guess no Olympic events will be held there but otherwise it suits my lot fine!! Once a week they get on the school bus to the swimming pool (it takes about 20 minutes to get there) but otherwise everything takes place on site including ballet, judo etc.
You do have to pay extra for 1-1 music lessons for violin or other instruments.
I guess youre not going to get unbiased opinions on this subject because anyone who choses a school for their child is going to want to defend it. But I can hand on heart say my children love this school and love learning there which to my mind is half the battle! The school also seems to have a big focus on developing self confidence which I really like.
They have a good grammar record (check out the website) and they hold 11+ coaching sessions when you get to that stage. Anecdotally Ive been told that some other schools dont do this because they assume you will pay for independent secondary schooling too.
I'd recommend giving them a ring and asking for a tour. It doesnt commit you to anything and you'll get a good feel for the school when you go around it. We loved it when we visited and it certainly hasnt disappointed!
Good luck with your move.

Hi - my daughter is due to join in September ( I am really delighted with what I've seen of it so far) and I'm struggling to find childcare - is it possible that any of you Mead-mums know anyone or could recommend anyone? I'd be incredibly grateful!

RFLmum · 03/07/2012 21:54

Hi. Try gum tree or childcare.co.uk. I found my lovely nanny there. X
