Hi
I'm looking to join a local playgroup in the Southside and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a friendly group??
Thanks

Playbreak at the Queens Park baptist church, Balvicar Drive is lovely. My dh goes but unfortunately I have to work now. It is on Tuesdays and Thursdays but only during term time - 10 til 11:30. There is a baby room and a toddler room and there are people to look after you DC while you have a cup of tea and cake. There is a rota for bringing cakes, clearing up and helping out in the kids rooms.

The other good one, where you can even leave your child if they are over 2.5, is Happy Tots. It is better for toddlers I think - lots of craft - Friday mornings 9:30 to 11:30 (dh a bit vague on details) at Shouth Shawlands Church.

Hi there, I was interested to read this post as I've been along to a couple of toddler groups with my baby and found them a bit clique... :o/
The one on Balvicar Drive sounds lovely though - anywhere nice and friendly is always a bonus! :o)

Playbreak at Balvicar Drive is lovely. My neighbour is one of the "ladies" who help out. She is a retired teacher and does lots with the kids. I went to this a few times as it is great that you can sit and have coffee in a room next to the play areas - great for those days when you just need somebody else to watch them for a change. Its tricky if you have a clingy one though! Might take a while to get them used to it. Agree that all playgroups can be clique-ey but I think this is just that people don't know how to introduce themselves. My neighbour swears by the Friday morning Playgroup in the church of Scotland on Albert Drive - she met lots of friends that way. Tapa Coffee shop does craft making and coffees downstairs on a Tuesday as well.

For over 2.5 i would say happy tots at south shawlands church. cannot recommend it enough and I get a 2 hour break to do whatever I like. Dd has made lovely friends their and the kids all play together nicely most of the time.

Meant to say it is wed and fri and there is no joining fee, waiting list and its pay as you go so you wont be penalised if you are away or child is sick.

Can I also recommend "Playbreak". My dd2 went here with her nanny and loved it. It's also my church, and everyone is SO friendly and nice, and they often have speakers along eg a HV or the fire brigade or something for the mums, if you want. The pastor tends to do something around Christmas and Easter, but as it is in a church I think that's understandable.!
