Getting into primary schools in Shoreham

We've been looking to buy in Shoreham for a few months, but with no luck, so now we're thinking of just moving down and renting when the lease on our house in London runs out in July.

The only thing is that's not great timing with DS due to start school in September. I'm afraid that at this late stage he's unlikely to get into a good local school. Does anyone know what the schools in Shoreham/Southwick are like? Are they all oversubscribed like Brighton/Hove schools?

DH and I need to commute into London about 3 days a week so if DS was allocated a school miles away it would make things difficult.

I don't know if we should just bite the bullet and hope for the best or delay until next year with a bit more time to transfer DS in Year 1? Any advice?

My niece is just starting in september too, so we had the fun with her this year. In general they are good, the two church schools are awfully over subscribed (DH and his family very very much church people and niece didnt get into either) but the state ones are ok and there was no case of her not getting into the one just down the road like in B&H.

Non church wise, I know that Swiss gardens and the one on shoreham beach are very good (we are that side of town) not to sure specifics on the others.
Hope it helps xx

thanks MrsTwinks

I don't think the church schools being oversubscribed will be an issue for us, as we're not at all religious and hadn't even considered those.

Ideally we'd like to live near Swiss Gardens but the houses we can afford around there tend to have quite small gardens (coming from London we really long for a decent garden). That's why I was wondering what the other schools in town were like cause we might end up on the Southwick side of town.

They aren't great sized but the greenacres estate is a very quiet area and the kids play in the street. Southwick primary's are ok but secondary school wise (thinking ahead) it's a bit cack. South Lancing is another nice area in places.
