Nursery advice for first baby

Hello, we're now considering a nursery for our 5 month baby when I return to work later this year.

Are we better to look at nurseries closer to home or work?

Any recommendations for the Duddingston area and/or Lothian Road area?

Many thanks

Cowgate under 5s is great on the Royal Mile but there is a long waiting list so if you like it if you go and visit put your baby's name down asap.

Hi - depends on your working hours, probably. I am about to go back to work in a couple of weeks and will be working full-time but compressed hours. We've booked a nursery right next to my work so that I can pick up/drop off DD at nursery then get into work quickly to do my hours. However, I also work a 10minute bus ride away, so...

Hi,

We're in the Duddingston area and ds is at Cherrytrees. He seems to be getting on very well and I'm very happy with the nursery and staff etc. I personally think it's better if the nursery is closer to home than work. For the 'settling in' sessions you won't necessarily be back at work yet. At the start, the wee ones pick up LOADS of bugs and I am finding it easier to be near to home if ds is ill (especially since I rely on buses, but you may feel differently if you drive). Also, do you ever work from home? That might also affect your decision. One negative about the nursery being near home is that you have to leave work earlier, so as the post above says, it may depend on your hours.

I also have friends with babies at Seabeach and Brighton Nursery and by all accounts they're both great.

Good luck!

I found it easier to have nursery nearer home then if you had a sneaky day off work you didn't have so far to go to drop little one off at nursery. Although we moved after a year and we didn't want to upset her as she was already settled. Maybe half way inbetween. But to be honest I would go and see nurseries in both areas and see who has vacancies on days to suit you and see which nursery environment you prefer and would suit your little one.
