Hi
Has anyone got a good, local (preferably in West Cambridge or villages; or who does home visits) solicitor for conveyancing and will writing? When we last moved house the firm we used were absolutely awful.

Thanks

I'd also be interested to hear, please, of recommendations of local solicitors (Cambridge or Saffron Walden areas) who specialise in conveyancing and probate.

Maybe worth mentioning:

cam.misc.org.uk/

The recommendations on cam.misc tend to be pretty reliable.

For house move we used Massucco Buttress, chosen only for amusing name, but turned out to be good. Friends have also used them.

I also need a recommendation for a solicitor to do a will, please.

I can recommend several, but it does depend on your needs and price bracket. For example if you are buying a million pound house with complex issues you need something different from a 1 bed flat. The state agents often recommned people and they will know who is suitable fo what (as well as have their own preferred people which is great if you need to get the estate agent to get the lawyer on side on a point - especially of timing) However personally I firmly believe that you get what you pay for.

For a will however I would recommned David Turner PAGE PROPERTY LAWYERS Histon

He has worked for 3 of the bigger local law firms in previous lives, and is the choice of most local lawyers I know

Thank you! We've got no complex requirements, so I'm planning on using my usual technique of gathering recommendations, then choosing the second cheapest.

www.adams-harrison.co.uk might be okay, I used the Sawston office when they were Webb & Partners and they weren't great but other offices may be better

www.millersands.com were fine

Hilda - Unfortunately David Turner doesn't appear on the Page Property Lawyers website - and that firm is a firm of licensed conveyancers so wouldn't be able to do wills. I couldn't find any David Turner listed on the Law Society website for Cambridge (presuming he is a solicitor rather than a Legal Executive).

He is a legal exec, and believe me he does wills. I've pm'd his details to you

Thank you all. I've chosen a conveyancing person now, and I think we'll wait until November and do the wills in Will Aid month.

Many thanks for your help

Thomson Webband Corfield usually take part in wills week but they get booked up really fast so contact them in September about it andthey will tell you when their appointment list opens.

Conveyancing isn't complicated as a general rule. But when it does go wrong it can be frustrating. You get what you pay for. In my opinion avoid licensed conveyancers.
