Bedwetting

Hi all, just wondered if any of you have any solutions to this problem. My son is 9 years of age and is still frequently bedwetting. I have taken him to see our local GP etc who have put him on tablets for this. The problem is the tablets were working for a while but no longer seem to have an effect. I have tried pretty much everything from a reward system to trying to ignore it. I don't think the alarm system would work as he is a very heavy sleeper. Does anyone have any suggestions that may help?

Would it not be worth trying the alarm system? You might be surprised.
I have a friend who recently tried it for her daughter and had fantastic results.

I suppose I could give it a try. Lets hope that it works. Thanks

I was advised to cut fizzy juice, blackcurrant type juices and squash and also hot chocolate as all of them irritate the bladder. The tablets only work if the problem is hormonal. It may be worth getting a referral to a specialised clinic who will do further tests. My friends son has recently been diagnosed with an overactive bladder and now are training him during the day to get the bladder to take more fluid and then release it and she says it's been a slow change but night times aren't as bad and if it continues to work she thinks he'll be dry pretty soon.

My niece had a similar problem but was maybe 6 or 7, and was only allowed a small amount to drink after 5 or 6pm and then woken (gently) and was taken to the toilet around when parents were going to bed 10 /11 ish.

Thanks for your messages. Thanks to mumsnet, I came across a bedwetting site called ERIC and this advises to cut out fizzy juice etc. I have been trying this and also setting an alarm at 1am to get him up to the toilet. This has worked for 5 nights now so I'm hoping that this continues.
