Can anyone recommend good Primary schools in Heaton?

I'm moving from London to Heaton in the summer and will hopefully be living just off Heaton Park rd. DD1 is due to start reception in September so I am trying to find her a school place. Does anyone have any recommendations? I really like the sound of Hotspur so far...
Also any nursery recommendations for DS who is 2.5, and playgroups/ aby groups for dd2 who will be 7m by then?
Any ideas are much appreciated!

I can recommend Chillingham Road Primary School - my neighbour sends her two children there - though it's only draw back is that it has no outside fields or yard to play in - it's literally slotted in between a dense residential area.. Do you have any form of transport? I send my son (and will be sending DS2 and DD their once they're of age, as has a nursery also) to Benton Park Primary - which is excellent.. Google them both and see where they are with relation to your future street - if you have a car that will be a big bonus. There is also Cragside Primary School however, the drawback for this school is that it doesn't have a nursery - with two youngs one, you need to take that into consideration - it's also most likely fully subscribed as it's a great school - I presume full of doctors children and such like (I live in High Heaton and I'm flanked by 2 doctors who send their kids there ha)..

I think they are pretty much all good so you don't need to worry.
Your nearest will be Hotspur, which I would definitely recommend - my children went there before we moved. The catchment is mixed, the curriculum and approach are excellent and very creative and it has fantastic outside space.

Chillingham Rd is also good (I don't have personal experience but know plenty of people who have been there) but smaller. There are also catholic choices - St Teresa's in walking distance, St Catherines probably just about walkable too. Parents also happy with Cragside by all accounts, but its a more traditional offer I would say.

Tbh you really shouldn't be thinking about driving when you have more than one good school on the doorstep!

nursery recommendations - mine went to Childsplay which is near the university/med school.
The others locally are Jesmond and St Gabriel's which I think both sound fine, but you will have to go and see them. Plenty of play groups etc which you can research when you get here!
Hotspur has a preschool nursery from 3+.

Thanks elliot and YIMSB. Think we are going to go with Hotspur if they have a place as everyone I have spoken to is very positive about it and it is a 5 min walk from our new place and definitely want to avoid getting in the car!

Great! They won't be full (its not like London up here, plenty of good schools with spare places!)
