godalming secondary schools

Hi all - we're moving to lovely Godalming and are v. excited except for the worry of getting a school place for my dd (junior school) and ds (secondary school). It seems Rodborough is full for ds's year and Godalming Jnr is full for ds's year. We are going to visit Broadwater soon - does anyone have any recent feedback on it? I know it has been badly thought of but I was hoping it had improved. I'm especially anxious about bullying as son is on autistic spectrum, so is a highly anxious child and has quirks that can make him a target.

any feedback would be gratefully received!
Thanks

DS been at Broadwater nearly two years and have not heard of any bullying. Wasn't our first choice but he is very happy there. Still have reservations that he could be being pushed harder academically elsewhere, but would not move him now.

Also have DD at God Jnr, which is lovely, what alternatives have you been given? Will depend on which area of Godalming are you moving to.

Have heard that Rodborough's waiting list moves quite quickly - any idea where you are on the list for either schools?

Welcome - it's a great place to live. I have a friend with a DD at Broadwater, and she is doing very well there, but I don't know much more than that other than my perception is that it's a school that is improving. It has fantastic sports facilities too.

The other secondary schools within possible reach, depending on which side of Godalming you live are Guildford County, Woolmer Hill in Haslemere and Weydon in Farnham.

Hi both - thanks for your info - good to hear your thoughts on BW and the Jnr school. We are moving quite near the station so are between Rodborough and Broadwater. The child top of Rodborough waiting list was less than a km away, so I don't think we'd top that. We really want DS to go somewhere local - he's not very confident about travelling on his own and I can't ferry him around as I'll be working. If I like the feel of Broadwater we'll probably go with that. The key thing for us is to get a lot of support for DS because of his learning difficulties. Do either of you have any feedback on the SEN there? I have heard it's v. good at Rodborough...
We're not on list yet for any school - have the forms to fill in but wanted to visit schools first before putting down any names. The person I spoke to at God Jnr thought only Losely Fields would have space, but am I right in thinking that's just come out of special measures? If we get given schools that are far away I think I will have to go to appeal as I don't see how I can get the kids to school and me to work in time. Not that I'm panicking - yet! Smile
