hello
my daughter will be 3 in december
l was hoping she would be able to go nursery for 3 hours using grant
l cant afford private care because they ask me to pay additional 500 pounds for 5 half days and l am now pregnant and not working
on the council list we have 3 state preschools in my area with nursery units
sheen mount, marshgate and east prymary

does any one have a child part time in any of these 3 nurseries using just grant?
Note that I am aware that its impossible to get into any of these 3 schools and that they do ask you to pay extra cause grant doesn't cover
no need to point it out Wink
thx

Sheen Mount and East Sheen definitely do not have nursery units. I don't htink Marshgate does either?

Barnes primary does and there is a state one in Kew called Wyndhams (spelling?). There is also a state nursery at Holy Trinity (which is brilliant)/

Put your DD's name on the waiting list for all of them - you might get an afternoon rather than a morning but it's worth trying.

Pretty sure none of those schools have nurseries. Marshgate has an asquith nursery attached but its private and quite overpriced. Holy Trinity and Barnes Primary have state run nurseries.

Here is a link of which schools has state linked nurseries (ie free).

Good luck!!

Windhams may be your best bet as it would be entirely free (and covers the whole of Richmond borough) however it is very oversubscribed - from memory they take in age order so Dec birthday you may be lucky but i think they only ofer a year before school rather than 2 years now and they don't have a January intake anymore.

They are very highly rated by everyone I know who's been there.

There is a nursery school in the Barn chrch in Kew and although they are private their fees are certainly lower than most other private nurseries though that may still be out of your price range - I think it was something like £4 per day top up.

marshgate does have a private nursery there, but you can see if they take children on just the grant for the over threes, some times they do, windham is brilliant but difficalt to get in and the barn is a funded school, but im not sure how that works, but i do know its either free or very cheap. good luck!

Contact the Family Information Service. The council say they will help people who are in need to access FREE nursery places for 3 and 4 year olds. Obviously they don't advertise this, and I don't know what the criteria is to judge people "in need" but if you really are not financially able to pay for nursery, please tell them, and ask them what they can do to help you.

All Richmond Borough parents need to be aware that the council is looking to make some significant changes to Secondary Schools over the coming years, which could impact existing schools, so check out the thread: "New Secondaries for Richmond Borough" and join the debate. The council will hopefully listen to parents' views, but we can only engage in the process if we know what's going on.
