St Bonaventure's parish boundaries

Hi. Thanks to all who responded to my last thread - I now know the admissions policy for St Bons, but my research continues Confused.

It is my understanding that the St Bons & sacred heart parish covers Bishopton, some of Ashley down, Henleaze and Redland - and also parts of Horfield, but can anyone please tell me which parts - or roads - are the cut off point. It would mean the difference between a 2 bed in Bishopston/Henleaze or a 3 bed in Ashley Down/Horfield.

I have spied a house which is in Springfield ave and would suit us down to the ground, www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-32310689.html but at 0.8 miles to the school, I imagine it's out of the parish.

Any advice gratefully received.

Many thanks.

You could try the following link www.ukcpd.com this lists the parish boundaries for catholic churches across the UK.
House looks well situated for other local primary schools as well.

Your best bet is to contact St.Bonaventures itself, or maybe the Clifton Diocese and check with them.

Thanks Crazy and RitaMorgan. As suggested, I think I'm going to give the church a ring.

Thanks again.

bambino just a word of warning (and apologies, i think i saw the last thread but may not have)....
it's just i'm becoming increasingly cautious of school boundary lines...a) i don't think they mean much year to year (seems like they don't mean anything if the school is at capacity anyway??) and b) there have been several VERY good schools in bristol which have gone exceedingly quickly downhill over a matter of months. so even parents who were pleased their kids got into the school of their choice have now ended up moving their child anyway.
Anyway. absolutely not raining on your parade. St bon's is nice. but so are lots of the schools in that area.

Thanks MummyElk You are right, the boundaries seem to change all the time, as do the schools. I have chilled out slightly - after all DS is only 2.3 Grin I guess I'm trying to do as much research as possible before we buy, so that we buy in the right place. I would like DS to go to a Catholic school because I am Catholic and was raised in that type of community, but DH thinks I'm slightly mental to be giving it this much thought so soon. He's probably right as I'm also thinking about secondaries (but I've kept that one to myself). Oh dear, I'll be completely strung out when we actually do start looking for real.

Have you viewed the house? Springfield Road is quite a busy rat run down to Muller Road, that's why I didn't chose a house down there. Agree with MummyElk and also Springfield Avenue is not Bishopston by any stretch of the imagination. Secondary school if you lived there would be Fairfield - read Ofsted and reel in horror yet people who currently have kids there say it is brilliant.

The kids in Springfield Avenue go to Ashley Down. It would be a shame if your kids didn't go to the local school as they would miss out on having friends locally and you would always be traipsing down to Bishopston/Redland.

I think I said on your previous thread that I don't get the church school thing, so my views are biased. I actually think education and religion should be seperate. The other thing is is that St Bons is very much a yummy mummy Bishopston school IMHO and that colours these things.

If it is such a deal breaker for you, I would advise visiting the school - it's the only way you're really going to get a sense for what it's like.

Thank you QueenofWhatever I haven't viewed the house yet as we are still waiting for our house to sell (renting at the mo in Filton as part of work relocation scheme), but being new to Bristol, we have been looking at potential areas on rightmove then driving round and ruling them out or in. I am slowly but surely coming round to the fact that we can't afford Bishopston (except for a 2 bed) hence us looking at Horfield/Ashley Down.

Having taken a deep breath, I think you're right with regards to my DS going to a different school to his neighbours. I never thought of it like that and I know that Ashley Down is an excellent school. I can also completely respect your view on faith schools - although I am catholic, my husband isn't so he's not fussed about faith schools. I've just heard such good things about St Bons and I do want DS to grow up in a strong neighbourly community.

As for the yummy mummies. If you mean the Boden-clad brigade that judge your every move then perhaps by not affording to live there, I've had a lucky escape Wink
