Firebird is good with children, so is the loft on Ashton lane.

I was at a nice place over the road, which was called - I think - the pelican.

i say firebird but actually we also like the museum, it's surprisingly un-shit.

suzikettles · 28/03/2011 22:41

Firebird's not so great these days unfortunately. It changed hands and the last couple of meals I've had there have been not great.

Which is gutting as it was a regular Sunday lunch or pay day Friday place for us.

It's been a few months since we've been though as after the last time we just gave up on it - I hope one of you will be able to tell me you've had a good meal there recently.

AitchTwoOh · 28/03/2011 22:48

i know what you mean, actually, we were there a couple of weeks ago and i had The Tiniest Fry-up In Scotland. and they've changed the kid's menu a bit as well (probably to avoid people like me ordering the tomato pasta). however, i still reckon that the salads are good for grown-ups and the kids meals are such good value. didn't realise it had changed hands, though... had hoped the teeny fry up was an anomaly.

i also quite like montgomery's, but that's more of a cafe than a restaurant. their soup and sandwich deal is great imo. and the twirly chairs much enjoyed by my children.

nannycheechee · 28/03/2011 22:50

Blind Pig on Byres Road has nice food and always seems to be a few children in there.

suzikettles · 28/03/2011 22:53

I was in Montgomery's this morning - I love it. They're so friendly.

Speaking of friendly, I was in An Clachan last week and the woman was very nice and chatty Shock Made me slightly paranoid that she'd been on here..

suzikettles · 28/03/2011 22:56

I had one of my Best Ever meals in Firebird actually. They had slow cooked leg of lamb on special and as there were 7 of us they just gave us an entire leg at the table. Was the most delicious thing with the meat falling off the bones.

But the chef from back then packed it in apparently to become a house husband. He is missed.

AitchTwoOh · 28/03/2011 23:04

omg really re an clachan? that is kind of horrifying. (i can't think what else would have been, she's been such a misery for so long).

suzikettles · 28/03/2011 23:15

Yes, really.

I had an amazing apple scone which she talked me into and I'm v grateful for it. [sook]

AitchTwoOh · 29/03/2011 13:52

yes, i like it too. although my pal asked for more hot water for her teapot and got a lecture from teh twinkie waitress on how they don't recommend doing that as it taints the leaves... hahahahaha. her response? 'i am forty three years of age, i think i'll risk it.' Grin

geordieminx · 29/03/2011 13:58

Aye, she told me "3 mins for the perfect cup" it was like dishwater. Grin

Although they do serve nutella on toast...total guilty pleasure

ooo i love cup- pot of yogi chai and a chocolate orange cupcake for me please:) and i have a groupon voucher for the blind pig - cocktails in teapots i can't wait

i know you've already been but thought i'd share my thoughts on places lol

the hidden lane tearoom is lovely but not the best for pram access,
sugarqube on argyle street is nice aswell, space for prams and comfy couches to sit on
for takeaway sandwiches- piece on argyle street is great- especially if you are a vegi- lots of choice - and the brownies are lovely:)
for the best coffee and hot choc and lovely but expensive homemade chocolates- would highly recommend coffee tea and chocolate- its on argyle street a bit further round (heading into town way)but so worth a visit - even just for smelling- they roast their own coffeebeans :D
beanscene is good - they do 50p takeaway hot choc for kiddies
the wee place across the street from beanscene- does a drink called a bambi which my ds adores - coffees not too bad there either think it also does two pizzas for £10 -not had them but they look good!
the goat and grill not been personally- but been recommended to try
neighbourhood (argyle street/berkeley street corner) has a kids license and do 2 4 1 pizzas which are lovely and the onion rings there are the best i have ever tasted!
