I don't know about schools in Newhaven as I have only had experience of Brighton - but if you go to the East Sussex County Council website and to the education and learning area there should be links to all the local schools and attainment, league tables results, ofsted report links, facilities etc and admissions procedures. You should also be able to order paper admission booklets if you want. This may give you a bit more info.

Hi there,

I lived in Newhaven up until 5 years ago and my eldest two went to school there for a while. Meeching Valley did have a good reputation as a primary, as did Denton. I do have friends who have had negative experiences of Southdown. When I lived there, many of my friends opted to apply to the primaries in the outlying villages such as southease and rodmell, but they are semi rural so you would need to drive.
In terms of a secondary, the only one in Newhaven is Tideway. As far as I am aware it is a good school. ( I went there myself and it was fine but that was 20 years ago!) Lewes Priory has an excellent reputation. However, it is a train ride away and has been over subscribed in the past.
I have moved several times during my childrens schooling and I know it can be worrying and stressful as you want to ensure you make the right choice.
The best option is to contact the schools and arrange a visit.
Hope that helps

hi thanks
yes the info from you both has been helpful, things havent worked out for newhaven but we are moving to woodingdean in april, i think we have found schools fro the kids as my youngest will be going to the one i have got a job in and the oldest i think will be going to a new academy which only opened in sept, so fingers crossed it all goes well and smoothly, hopefully when we get down there we can make our final choice when weve been to see them
thank you xx
