I am looking for shoe shops for my kids in Cambridge

I know that Charles Clincard sells very nice good quality shoes, sometimes TK Maxx. We need breathable sport shoes (sizes 7-8, 10-11) as good as Geox, Startrite. Geox are good because they are breathable and they support foot. Can anyone suggest any good shops? Thanks!

there is a shoe shop on Milton road which sells startrite but we tend to go to John lewis

Colourworld · 16/03/2011 14:53

Thanks cassybabs. We will probably go to JL and other shops at weekend. One by one.

Apart from Clarks (which is a marmite brand I know!), the centre of Cambridge isn't great for kids shoes IMO.

I didn't particularly rate Charles Clinkard's fitting service for my narrow fitted daughter but you may do better with a more "standard" fit. Yes, JL. Milton Road shop is good. TBH we tend to go to Saffron Walden these days as we live that side of town. There's a good independent shoe shop there. Also in Royston.

If you are set on Cambridge, I wonder if one of the Green St shops might stock something similar? The one up from Ecco?

LJB36 · 17/03/2011 19:37

The one in Saffron Walden has a 'sister' shop in Cambridge too... I think it is near the Science Park. When we went for crocs for two year old they sent some over from there to SW branch for us, I can't think of the name of the shop but it is near Gluttons in SW. If you make it as far as SW to look and don't like there is also a Clarks to fall back on!!!

LJB36 · 17/03/2011 19:38

I think it may be the one cazzybabes mentions on Milton Road which is the sister shop to the funky one in SW?

AutumnWitch · 17/03/2011 19:43

Try heading to Great Shelford, there's a children's shoe shop there (think it's called InStep) that sells european brands as well as Startrite.

I'd second the vote for the Saffon Walden shop. It's called Soley for Children and is tucked in an alley behind Boots

Not Cambridge I know but The Shoe Tree in Ely is fantastic, I'm sure they do geox also a lot of the German and Italian brands, my DS has some really good ricosta trainers

Colourworld · 17/03/2011 22:47

Thank you so much for all your kind suggestions!
I have found the name of the shoe shop on Milton Rd, which is probably called the Smiths Footwear. Does this shop has a big variety of shoes/trainers in comparison to the stock at JL or Charles Clincard.
Ecco is nice but probably not for my DS. He needs somethings as Geox, orthopedic trainers with good foot support and breathable.
I do not know about the other shops but will keep them in mind.
Thanks again!

AutumnWitch the Shelford store closed down a coule of months ago. Sad

Colourworld Milton Rd is now part of Burr Shoes (same as Royston one I mentioned earlier and I think also possibly associated with the Saffron Walden shop that AW mentions above which I also like). Why not give them a call ref the stock? I'd say it's on a par with CC & JL but it's sometimes hard to tell from the display area.

I remembered that the other Green Street shop is called Sundaes but can't recall if they actually stock children's shoes at all so possibly not much use unless you are in town anyway.

Good luck - it really should be easier to get decent children's shoes in a city like ours!

WincyEtNightietilMayBeOut · 18/03/2011 08:26

Sorry - "that AutumnWitch and LJB mentioned above". Didn't mean to ignore you LJB! Smile

cazzybabs · 18/03/2011 09:13

I don't think Sundaes does children's shoes - or didn't when I was last in there (some tine ago as it is not buggy friendly)

AutumnWitch · 18/03/2011 09:15

Oh no ! Shock DS1 needs new shoes and I was planning to head that way.

Saffron Walden it is then.

My DH was in the cicy centre this morning. I suggested him to visit Charles Clincard just to have a look at the trainers and not to buy anything expensive. No, he bought expensive trainers because there was nothing cheaper Angry. Popped in into the 1st shop and that it. Purchase is done.

I have recently bought some shoes from this website www.eeruka.com. their shoes are lovely. There is an offere for refer 20 friends that make a purchase and get a free pair of shoes. Please refer me Lisa W. but seriously, you will love their shoes

BettyBleu · 29/04/2011 20:43

The owner of Solely for Children in Saffron Walden is taking over the Shelford shop. Not sure when it is due to open.

bonkers20 · 30/04/2011 22:28

A thumbs up for Solely for Children in Saffron Walden. I've been there with my DS(aged 12) for years and now go with my DS(aged 2). They both have narrow feet so don't do well with Clarks. They're not cheap though!

lisaw001 · 16/06/2011 18:59

I get my kids shoes off this website. www.eeruka.com. They have very lovely styles. You can check them out.

cgw60 · 11/08/2012 09:26

I used to live in Melbourne so it was a trek just to get to Cambridge with the kids, so like Lisa above, I now buy my shoes online at www.shoesforkids.co.uk. They sell pretty much all brands.
