I have a friend who has just finished training as a maternity nurse and is looking for work placements.

She is available to help with you and your newborn in return for a reference at the end of her 3 week work placement.
She can help with:
breast feeding/ bottle feeding issues
Sleeping routine
Daytime routine
Post natal depression
Mothers or babies who have special needs
Hygiene

She has been helping me for the past three weeks with my newborn and 2 other dcs. I would highly recommend her. if anyone is interested in this excellent opportunity please message me.

There is no such thing as a "maternity nurse".

The word "Nurse" is a protected titled for people who have completed 3 years of schooling and are then registered with the NMC. It is not a throw around title that you use for anyone who helps to take care of people.

'Maternity nurse' is a pretty well known job title, especially amoungst all the nanny and maternity nurse agencies in London!

Nurse isn't a title exclusively for those with '3 years of schooling etc' just as teacher isn't reserved only for those with a BEd or PGCE. However I think "Registered Nurse" (RN) is exclusive for UK nurses with specific qualifications to a certain level.

A maternity nurse is an experienced infant care provider who usually lives with a family and provides 24 hour on-call service after the birth of a baby.
Despite the name a maternity nurse is not necessarily a trained nurse, midwife or health visitor though many maternity nurses have had one of these past careers.

Sorry for causing you confusion new job Smile

Maybe it's the US only where Nurse is a protected title. Over there we reported home health aides (which is what a maternity nurse really is) etc to the state board of nursing when they didn't correct clients who referred to them as "Nurse" and the home health aides were fined $$$$$$$ for imitating a professional without a license. After all the educational hoops I had to jump through, licensing exams and fees I had to pay to be able to legally call myself a Nurse I can't bear it when home help and babysitters abuse the word. Must be an american thing.

Hello, I would be really interested to hear more about the maternity nurse! My twins are due on 28th March and an extra pair of hands for 3 weeks would be welcome. How much does she charge firstly?

Many thanks.
