Hi,

I am coming to Liverpool for the weekend (Friday 4th- Sunday 6th), but DH will be at work both days.

Is there anywhere I can take my DDs (aged 3 and 18m) for the day?

Also, can anyone recommend a nice hotel, child-friendly, to stay in the city-centre?

Thanks! Smile

Hi,
Hotel wise..how 'nice' are you looking for? Malmasion is nice, but it's a bit of a walk into town. The Atlantic is a Thistle which is the 'city' end of town and so it will be quiet for the weekend I would imagine. Otherwise there is the hope st hotel and the beatles hotel, hard days night. There is a new Hilton and a Jury's is on Albert Dock. My friend stayed at the Hampton Suites which might be good for space with the little'ies. .. will that do you ? Oh, and there are the usual travel lodge / inn type places, quite a few of those.

Places to go. L'pl is packed with stuff to do.
Free stuff. The world museum, next to the the Walker Art gallery. The Conservation Museum not far from that (not too keen on that, but it's been a while since I last went). Down at the Albert Dock there is The Tate, The Maritime Museum and boats of all shapes and size to watch from the dock.

There are some cracking parks to visit just outside the city. Sefton Park with it's Palm House. Stanley park, lovely grounds and great swing park too, also has a nice glass house to go have a cup of tea.

If you want to venture further, go see Anthony Gormleys iron men at Burbo Bank, just past crosby and waterloo.
A play place that has really nice food is Yellow Sub, only a few minutes away from town, but bit of a hike if you're walking....oh and there is a restaurant just by there which is really nice too. Deli Fonseca or something, small and they love kids there.

Will that do you?

Oh, and I hope you have a nice time. Please let us know what you did get up to won't you..

Hotel wise, there are a few Travelodges that are central. What's your budget? There's a Feathers on Mount Pleasant that would be very central and walkable, but perhaps a bit noisy on Sat night. Agree that the Hilton and Jury's Inn near Liverpool One (excellent shopping) would be good for being central. Hard Day's Night and Hope St Hotel will be expensive.

Yes, do the World Museum! My DS loves the dinosaurs, bug house and aquarium. Next door is the Walker gallery and they have a kids' section where they can draw, dress up, do interactive stuff. The Maritime Museum is also good, on the dock (sadly the Conservative Centre's just closed - grr government cuts Angry). If you go to www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk you can look at events listings and see what activities are on for kids the weekend you're coming. There is a lot of good stuff.

Liverpool One, the big new retail/leisure park in town, is good for shopping and when the kids get bored you can easily walk across to the Albert Dock or to one of the other museums.

Restaurants - as ascouser said, Delifonseca is good (though not the quickest so go before your DC get ravenous, although the good is well worth it. Google for more details. Also The Quarter on Faulkner St, just off Hope St, is nice and very child friendly. The Maritime Museum also has a very nice top floor restaurant with a good menu for kids - have a look at it online.

Soft play - ascouser has mentioned the Yellow Sub which is near the city centre and has decent food too.

oooohhh localgirl...I just love the Quarter, you've just reminded me about that. I'll have to go soon now.
I didn't know the Conservation had closed - thanks for adding that.
Also, what about either or both of the cathedrals. Nice to go see and the Met has a nice cafe on the side.

Liverpool One John Lewis cafe is pricey but so great with kids, fantastic parents room and the most child friendly place I think I've ever been apart from play places! Talking of play places, there is also Fun Town at Garston, which is a bit smaller than Yellow Sub and very nice, and a new one on Speke Hall Road which I haven't been to yet. Also another recommendation for both the museum and Sefton Park Smile
