Possibly moving to Bristol

Hubby has the chance to move to Bristol from current high stress and long hours job in London. Downside is a fairly hefty pay cut.

I'm all for it but he's worried about me losing my support network by moving (new addition will be very new when we have to move). Would probably aim for Clifton initially until we get a feel for things.

Anyone else moved at this stage? What is Bristol like for young (ish!) mums with new babies? Are there lots of opportunities to meet other mums? Will someone look after me if we do move? :)

Appreciate all advice...

Hi, Bunny, I am thinking of moving also!

Hi

We have just done the same move for the same reasons! OH was working long hours and was stressed out. We don't have any little ones but I have just found out that I am expecting! :)

We love Bristol - it is a great city - lots going on and so quick to get out of the city and into the lovely surrounding countryside. I can't speak specifically on meeting other mums but there is lots going on and lots of parents around (we live in Clifton at the moment) so I am sure you will meet people!

Good luck with the decision!

Hi Bunny,
I have just made the move on my own with my 2year old DS. I have only been here three weeks but Bristol is a really friendly and much less stressful than London.
I am living in Cotham and it's so much nicer than what I could afford in London.
There seem to be loads of things for young mums to do and I am already sure that I have made the right move for myself and my DS.
Good Luck with the move!

I live in Brislington, which is in south Bristol. It's not a trendy or hugely affluent part of the city, but I am finding it a great place to bring up my DD. It's full of young professionals and parents and it's got the feeling of an area that's on the up. It's got a fantastic local library (the best in Bristol IMHO), 2 nice local cafes, lots of toddler groups and it's only 2.5 miles from the city centre. You are close to the centre of Bristol and only a few miles from Bath, another amazing city.

Briz is full of lovely Victorian and 1930s terraces, and it's a very friendly place to live. Bocabar is a great place to meet mums and soak up some culture. Great cemetary as well (google Arnos Vale cemetary). Brislington is an under-rated gem I think.

Downsides? Well, the traffic and the lack of decent senior schools (but those problems apply to most of Bristol).

We lived in Brislington before we moved away and second all of that. It's ace and a really nice place for families. :)

We're moving back to Bristol in the next few months and I'd love to move there or Totterdown (which is next to Brislington but closer to Temple Meads and the city centre) but my husband is keen on Clifton because of the school situation.
