Hello all, we've just got back from the Pony & Trap in Chew Magna for Sunday lunch. It was good, but steep at £60 for the four of us, and while nice for grown-ups, not geared up to kids beyond having a few high chairs available.
Where do you go for a nice Sunday lunch, or just to have a few drinks? My wish list is:

Nice food for grown ups, well done. I don't mind if it's baguettes and jacket potatoes, as long as the Brakes lorry isn't round the back unloading frozen crap. And a really good dessert selection, homemade cakes, quality ice cream, puddingy things.

And something fresh for the kids that they'll actually eat - a realistically sized mini roast with plain cooked peas, broccoli & carrots.

Basics such as baby-changing facilities and high chairs

Space for them to run around, preferable outside - maybe a den in the garden, or a climbing frame, or just some trees to hide in.

Big tables for colouring and drawing and doing sticker books while parents chat and relax.

Drinks that come in cartons or plastic tumblers with straws.

In short, somewhere the kids are welcomed and catered for, but that is still appealing to adults.

We're in South Bristol, but to be honest I would forgo the booze and drive a fair distance for a relaxing Sunday, with friends and all our kids!

TIA

I'm not sure that your perfect place actually exists - or if it does, I haven't found it. We eat out a lot with the children and so far have found:

The Star at Tickenham - great for children. Indoor small soft play and tables for colouring, role play area etc, also outdoor play area but the food is nothing special. It is ok though and reasonably priced, but not a posh lunch.

The White Lion Buckover - lovely garden, decent food but again more "pub grub" than anything else.

Lockside - central Bristol - Cumberland Basin. Much better food and very friendly towards children. They have books and toys available and give them sweets at the end of the meal, but no play area and on busy roads.

Cosmo - Chinese buffet place on the triangle in Clifton. My children love it as they get to choose bits of whatever they fancy and they have a chocolate fountain, but no play area or toys.

Zizzi - friendly towards children. Always had a good meal there but no play area.

If you find what you are looking for, please let me know!

Thanks, they all sound worth a try. We drive past the Star on the way to MILs and Lockside is pretty close. Never thought of Cosmo.
Any more ideas Bristol people?

Afraid I only really know North Bristol.

The Royal Oak is maybe a bit of a trek for you being on Gloucester Road, but food is great and is very child friendly (though can get crammed inside on a rainy day).

The Cambridge on Kellaway Ave has good food generally (not sure about the roast on a Sunday), a big garden and is right next door to Redland park so handy for a wander/playground afterwards/before.

Have also been to The Anchor in Oldbury on Severn with my nephews and they loved it. Would probably only go for it in good weather though.

The Spotted Cow, North Street Bedminster. Very good Sunday Dinners for around £10, £5 children, nice outside areas, used to small children running around inside! thespottedcowbristol.com

Ah, that's just around the corner! Haven't been for a while, but the food is great. In the slightly warmer/drier weather that'll be perfect! Nice one, thank you.
Don't know why I'd forgotten it!
