Moving to the area in the summer

Hi Ladies (and men)

We're looking to move to the area during the summer holidays from Hull.

I have a nearly 11 year old and a three year old, both dds. It may nor be Cheltenham, it could be a 30 min radius ish around the area. Any tips for housing, schools, areas would be greatly appreciated please.

well...I'm in Charlton kings and schools here, both primary and secondary, are fab. Downside is house prices and the catchment for the secondary school is a bit unpredictable. Good luck with sorting out your move.

Thanks Tough, will have a look round there then for a start. We'll be renting anyway and rent seems to be more than double what we pay here anyway, so everywhere is going to seem expensive to usGrin
Have applied to Pate's for an entrance exam and emailed the education services to find out what we need to do to apply for other secondary schools in the area.

If you are moving to within a 30 min radius of Cheltenham, the Cotswold Schoolin Bourton on the Water has recently received an Outstanding Ofsted report and has excellent results.Primary school wise the surrounding villages have some lovely schools (am biased as have been primary school supply teacher around here). Also Cleeve School (secondary)in Cheltenham has a good reputation and the primary school there has a new head who was our local village school head and very popular here.

Best of luck with your search.....

Can recommend the Stroud area.

I've lived in both - Cheltenham, when a young adult and now with a family, in Stroud.

It is much quieter than Cheltenham which is very busy these days. It can take a long while just to drive across the town whereas if you lived out of town on the right side for your work or whatever, than commuting 'in' could be quicker than travelling 'across'.

Stroud also has good schools - girls and boys grammars plus a very good comp (TK) if you live in the right area.
House prices are also generally lower here.

I agree about Stroud - I lived in Cheltenham for 16yrs before having no 1 ds, we couldn't afford the size house we wanted in Charlton Kings and didn't want to send our child (now children) to the other schools in Chelt.

We also wanted to be able to let them roam, walk to friends houses, climb trees etc and Cheltenham, as well as having some lovely parts also has some very dodgy areas. We chose Stroud as there are so many lively community orientated villages and there are lots of family orientated things going on that are free or reasonable. We could also afford a much better house and garden. We've been here a year and are loving the friendliness and stunning countryside!
Good luck
