Where we live in Exmouth, we were in the central for four primary schools; Withycombe, Brixington, Marpool and Bassets Farm.

Having looked at all four, we went for Bassets Farm and were very happy with the school with both DD and DS coming out safely at the end. We still have contacts there, even though DD is now 20 and DS is 14 next month.

Having said that, our neighbour's children went to Brixington and the neighbours next but one children went to Marpool and all have appeared happy with their choice.

We would still highly recommend Bassets Farm though. You really need to visit theam and go with the gut reaction as to which one you feel happiest with.

There are also a couple of fee paying primary schools locally am not able to comment on them.

What you might want to start considering though is what happens in 7 years time when it comes to secondary school. Exmouth has the largest comprehensive school in Europe with over 2500 children and it really isn't that good. The children that get the attention are those that are very bright or are disruptive. The rest may get to 16 with a handful of GCSEs but don't expect too many prospective Oxbridge candidates.

Good state schools in the area are Kings School in Ottery St Mary and Colyton Grammer School. There are also a good number of well respected fee paying schools in Exeter.

I hope you enjoy Exmouth.
