Hi

i dont mind so much.

though think i may get my user name changed lol.

im originally from stoke on trent Grin

transferred with my old works and plus id met my fella around the same time.lol

yes its still open though im not much for it in there, seems to be full of parents that dont give crap about their kids and let them do what they want. so sort of stopped going in. will go in if its quiet. my middle son has his birthday party there and it was a nightmare, so its not really my fav place to go.

is handsworth where asda is? even tho iv been here 7 years im still not hot on areas lol

is there many people from sheffield on here?
thought id give on here a try as the other forum i use has turned into a horrible forum really.

wheres your hubby from?

superfantastic · 19/01/2011 10:32

Not married yet...together 10 years, he is Scottish. :)

Hulababy · 19/01/2011 21:21

Hi, welcome to MN local.

I'm Hula and I have one 8y DD. I live in Lodge Moor with DD and DH. I work part time at Hunter's bar Infants. Dh is a solicitor in town. We moved to Sheffield 15 yeras ago and love it.

There are a lot of regular Sheffield MNetters on the site - many hve been here a good while, Ive been here since 2004 - but most hang out on the full Talk boards, rather than on the local boards. Think this is the same for most of the local sites on MN - the full Talk boards are the opposite, very very busy and where all the happenings happen!

We do have meet ups every so often - these days often in school holidays if with children. We have mums meet sometimes too, such asat the Spa in town.

superfantastic · 21/01/2011 22:33

Hi Hula,

I hang out in the Special needs children board, I used to go on AIBU but been avoiding it lately. Hmm

Be nice to get a local MN club going. :) Ive only been on MN sice last summer when we were going through diagnosis for DDs ASD. The SNMN board was a great support and source of information. :)

Im off to the spa next week! Grin

MrsBull,

The site is very busy, I hope you are having a good look around. :)

Hiya,

I'm in Meersbrook. Moved to Sheffield from the South in the summer and love it here!

DD is two. Didn't go back to work after I had her. I've now retrained as an antenatal educator with Lazy Daisy - classes start next week! I keep wondering when things are going to calm down - moving 200 miles north then setting up a business :)

Feeling really settled here but still getting to grips with what's on etc.

RespectTheDoughnut · 28/01/2011 11:48

Ooh, hello :) I'm in Sheffield too. Near Norfolk Park. I have one DS - he's 2 in April. I don't know many people in Sheffield, so it'd be nice to have a meet up or something :)

DaisyKris · 28/01/2011 11:55

Ooh, that would be great! Where would you fancy meeting up? I can get to Norfolk Park easily enough, or somewhere more central? Library might be good so little ones can run about in a smaller space? ;)

RespectTheDoughnut · 28/01/2011 12:00

I don't mind - I passed my driving test last week (yay!) so I can get about far more easily than before. & I live right on a tram line anyway. Central might be good, so we can be accessible to as many people as possible, if others want to come?

DaisyKris · 28/01/2011 12:07

Ooh, congratulations! I have a licence but no car at the moment :)

Central sounds a good plan. Any takers? :)

puglet123 · 31/01/2011 22:21

Hello - I am from Sheffield - live in Deepcar and love the idea of meeting local mums. I have 2 DC - DS is 7 and DD is 5. I work as a piano/music teacher and hubbie is a woodwind teacher - we run a little music shop in Fulwood.
Been on MN for a few months now and only just found this local part!! Smile

RespectTheDoughnut · 01/02/2011 22:44

I don't know if I can meet you if you're so talented Wink

Hulababy · 01/02/2011 22:50

I work mornings in term time, finish at 12:30

DaisyKris · 03/02/2011 22:59

Afternoons work well for me.

abeautifulbutterfly · 04/02/2011 13:55

Hello Sheffield peeps,

Bit cheeky my being here as I don't live even in the UK but tis my birthright (was born in Sheffield!)
I could do with some info for a friend who's moving to Sheff for her DH's job. She isn't into the whole internet community thing but I KNOW MN can help!
Anyhoo, they are looking to buy their first home, and will need schools, infant for now. I think they're looking more on the Peaks side.
He is a lawyer, she is SAHM. They (esp. she) are very slightly alternative, moderate lentil-weaving types, wanting house w. garden. As a guide she looked in Dorr (sp.?) last w/d but said she found it a bit too middle-class leafy. They are looking also in the Peaks but I think would prefer the DH not to have to commute.
As schools go they want friendly, fairly relaxed, poss. slightly alternative-ethos state (more focused on the all-round experience/child than results IYSWIM). Their DD1 is currently in reception at a school that looks like a kids' version of a student house and has a lovely "cosy" feel to it, though apparently OFSTED mediocre. But they are v. pleased and the DD very happy.
Any tips on orchestras/string orchestras in Sheff would be greatly appreciated too - she is a good amateur viola player.

Thanks all!

Hulababy · 06/02/2011 09:56

Has she looked at areas like crookes and ecclesall/hunters bar?

We are in lodge moor which is peaks side, 2 minutes from country walks. But maybe too Dore type for them.

My dh is also a lawyer - he is a solicitor, partner at Taylor & emmet in town.

abeautifulbutterfly · 06/02/2011 14:40

Ooh Lodge Moor I remember that - I think my cousin lived there when she was a student nurse. Lots of nice sandstone terraces and bloody great hills. OK so I guess that describes most of Sheffield then...

Thanks for the ideas, will pass them on.

Don't know where the DH is going to be working - he is a patent lawyer.

Hulababy · 06/02/2011 18:12

Depending on how long ago it was when you were last here, where I live was the old hospital.

Quite open here and within minutes of walking in the middle of the country side, towards the resevoirs. Very windy too, and above the snow line!

Katz · 06/02/2011 19:44

Hello to the other Sheffield mums, i'm up in Crookes, i've been on mumsnet since 2005 and have made some great friends through it. We should have a meet up again at some point.

butterfly - I'd recommend Crookes by your description, the local school my children go to has a lovely ethos and it very play-centred in its approach to teaching. Only slight problem with Crookes is house size, they tend to be 3 beds and not much thats bigger. The other place to consider would be Broomhill, house prices are higher.

Hulababy · 06/02/2011 21:33

Guessing a Wednesday afternoon would be good for you Katz?

Katz · 06/02/2011 21:34

yep! although may be able to do different day with notice.

torie1980 · 07/02/2011 16:24

Hey, i have a 8 year old and a 2 year old the 8 year old causing a lot of problems at school at the moment so would like to meet other mums and any advice would be grately appreciatedx

Katz · 07/02/2011 19:46

shall we plan a meet up then?
