I know it might be cheeky to ask but what kind of numbers we talking about for full-time / part-time childcare each month. We are debating the options, I know spaces are limited.

I imagine Harpenden is very similar to St Albans. Nursery is £55 - £65 a day there. I think this is the most expensive in the country from what I can gather about prices elsewhere. And there are very long waiting lists (months long). When do you need the childcare to start?

Thats almost twice as much as I thought. Blimey. Debating having my husband go freelance (because working in the City is usually 7am-7:30pm and not fair for both of us to keep those hours) and work out ft or pt childcare but £1300 a month is a bit steep

It is eye-wateringly expensive. You can earn a perfectly decent wage and your entire salary would go on childcare. And if you have two children, you have to earn at least £50k + to make it financially worthwhile going back to work.

I moved to harpenden and love it here but it's overwhelmingly expensive sometimes almost feel like you have no chance unless your born with money here.

Not impressed by the surrounding commuting areas because we love to have our kids go to a decent school.

My nursery costs in St Albans have just gone up (as they do every year) by more than inflation, so it is basically £62/day.

They have also just withdrawn from the Nursery Eduction Grant (15 hours Free for 3-4 year olds) this is due to how the legislation has changed thanks to the ConDems, and how Herts council is administering it.So to get your 15 hours once they turn 3, you basically have to go to a local school nursery.... working parents hit again!
