Commuting to London

Does anybody know how long the S1 bus takes from Marshalswick to St Albans rail station in the morning, my daughter and her family are planning on relocating here from USA and have heard the roads are very congested. Are the roads busier at 7am or 8am. Thanks very much.

I'm a mile or so from the station and at 7 am it would be very quiet - by 8 am you'd be starting to see traffic immediately around the station but not too bad. The worst time is about 8.30 - 9 am when the school run hits the commuter traffic but I'd say Marshalswick isn't the worst side of town to be approaching from, even then.

Depending on where they are looking in Marshalswick the bus might be more trouble than it's worth - it takes me 20 minutes to walk to the station and would take me maybe another 10 to walk to the Quadrant shops, so 30 minutes tops, and it's a pleasant walk. The bus takes 15-20 minutes depending on the time of day. Good luck!

Here's a link to the timetable.

It says 20 minutes. There's also an S9 but those buses will drive you crazy. (Actually my Mum drives me crazy telling me all about them and how they don't turn up).

Walk, taxi, drive, bike are probably all better options.
