Anyone else enrolling their child for P1 next week?

I knew that Glasgow school enrollment was in January but sort of assumed I'd get a letter or something...anyway, I checked the council website just there and apparently it's next week.

Do you have to make an appointment or do you just drop in to see the school secretary or something Confused? I'm not bothered about seeing round the school as it'll be closing and ds will be going to the new Hillhead Primary in the summer.

At least that's what I'm assuming (see, there's those assumptions again). I need to phone them don't I...

any interesting questions? i know nothing about the school, up until last month my kids were going into gaelic education but i changed my mind. so i haven't been to any meetings about it

Normantebbit · 18/01/2011 22:32

I think the lack of info is partly due to the amalgamation and the new building. There is a lot they don't know yet in terms of school uniform, classes, activities etc.

The build has been delayed again because of the bad weather so they won't be in til August instead of May.

On the bright side, there are plans for every class to spend a day in the park each month, once the school has moved.

so how did enrolling go for everyone???:)

suzikettles · 20/01/2011 17:06

No problem - I had to go to collect my car from the garage in the morning so we didn't get there until after 11.30 - no queues!

I did have to wait a couple of minutes so plenty of time to read the sign on the door which said "please turn up for the beginning of your chosen session", which it didn't say on the council website and they didn't tell me when I phoned, but noone seemed to be bothered so hopefully no black mark before we've even started Blush.

kirmcc Questions were just around the last HMIE report / subsequent follow up report findings (last inspection was years ago). Answers about how the school has improved since then were very reassuring Smile. Also asked about whether they have a "buddying" scheme in place where P1s are assigned an older child for support - they do.

Normantebbit August? Really? Can I ask where you heard this? HT told us June. Am worried now.

Normantebbit · 23/01/2011 21:21

Sorry meant in time for new school year. It's very exciting, I can't wait.

kirmcc · 25/02/2011 10:39

Normantebbit · 27/02/2011 20:05

Yes it is the last two weeks in June, which will be exciting.

kirmcc · 27/02/2011 20:53

think its a bit of a shame for the p7s though- not getting to finish in the school they started- or do they have a separate plan?

kirmcc · 04/03/2011 20:22

does anyone know anything about the uniform? a mum at the school said we got a letter home last week but i#ve not had one.she said it was green but she wasn't sure if they meant the jumpers to be green or for the whole thing to be green!

suzikettles · 04/03/2011 21:30

The woman who took us through enrollment told me it was green but that they hadn't decided on the exact shade Confused

Visions of lime green polo shirts...

We were walking through Kelvingrove Park today along the Kelvin Walkway and had a good ol nosey at the school. It's bigger than it looks from the Kelvin Way.

Was also talking to another mum during the week who said it was looking like 3 P1 classes.

Hopefully they'll be in touch fairly soon about open days etc?
