Find me a new place to live, o wise Mumsnetters

So I need your collective wisdom, Bristolian Mumsnetters.

We currently live in Westbury on Trym. DS1 goes to Westbury Park primary. DS2 in nursery. I will shortly work in the centre of town, DP currently works on Whiteladies Road but wants to move offices (runs his own business).

We need to downsize and cut our rent down by a few hundred quid a month. Where shall we go and live?

We need a decent primary school, reasonable commute links into centre of town, and DP wants to live near water! We like Stapleton and Frenchay, but Frenchay seems pricey, at least the bit round the common does. Where is nice? What's Sea Mills like? Any ideas?

Sorry, using a stupid bloody Mac and it posted an old e-mail instead of the fascinating post I had written.

What I wanted to say was...

I would be really clear about what is essential and what is desirable - bedrooms, budget, public transport, corner shop etc.

I live in a three bed house with garden in Horfield for 700 a month, so with your budget I'd say you're laughing. TBH, you sound a little scatter gun in your approach. Do you want city, suburb or country? Each one will be very different with pros and cons. Why does your DH want water? Does he want to look at it or do something like sail?

I know the Chew Valley well having lived there for a number of years. Some of the villages are under the flight path and you would be completely car dependent. Also there are not many childminders and after school clubs as so many Mums (and yes, it is the women) don't work. There was only the one childminder in my village, good thing I liked her.

Thank you QueenofWhatever! That's very useful to know, as I will be working wherever we move, in some form at least.

SCatter gun is about right - we know things aren't right where we are, we just don't know where we want to be. DP wants to look at and ideally hear water near wherever we are, no sailing or urge to paddle Grin

I'v heard nice things about Shirehampton, very villagey, great community, even better transport links. I've also heard the primarys are fine, even the non-catholic one. The main primary has a new head who from what I hear is clearing up the blardy state the last one left it in.

And parts of it are on the river, has its own little high street.

Bargain.
