Juniper Green - nice place to live?

Just wondering if anyone knows Juniper Green - we are moving back home to Edinburgh in the new year (having been in the Midlands for 15+) and looks like we will be renting in Juniper Green initially (first 6m or so).

I don't know it v well, having been brought up closer to the centre, but it seems like a nice place.

Any tips/inside info? Can't WAIT to be back home!

Yes, great, well run primary school (new building too), plenty of good groups, nurseries, classes, etc. What sort of inside info are you after? :)

Thanks JoggerMum - I'm just after any tips really!

DD will be (just) 2 when we move, so I'm looking for any good groups or classes locally. I have friends from school elsewhere in Edinburgh but not many with kids so don't have a lot to draw on and will be keen to make friends for both DD and me.

Have heard from others that there are good nurseries locally so think I have info on that already.

Is there a good doctor's surgery locally? Will be hoping to get PG sometime over the next 12m so a good MW would be a bonus!

Anything you can think of would be great really. I've just ordered a copy of the new edition of Edinburgh for Under Fives so that should fill in some gaps but nothing beats info from 'real' people!

Yes, it's a lovely place. Nice villagey feel and great primary school.

There are lots of things to do for mums and wee ones round about the area.

Also, if you're up on a recce - stop for a cake and a cuppa in Ruth's Kitchen. You won't be disappointed!

Local doctor's surgery is in Currie, although there is one in Colinton as well. As for MWs I think you get the choice of the Royal Infirmary or St. John's in Livingston, both good, but both can be busy.

There is a playgroup in the Village hall and load of kids groups happen in the JG church hall.

The local private nurseries will also take your DD to and from the school nursery when she is 3, which we've found very helpful. The School nursery is highly recommended, and free!

Thanks again JoggerMum, sounds good. I will suss out both surgeries when we're up there then.

Janos - I saw Ruth's Kitchen last time we were up but haven't been in, looking forward to testing it out!
