Desperately seeking decent GP

Carabosse2010 · 05/10/2010 06:51

I'm new to the area and have just found out I'm pregnant. But I've had terrible service at the GP I just registered with (unprofessional, uncaring and told me I had miscarried when I haven't - nice).
Can anyone recommend a decent GP in the area to see me through my pregnancy and take my baby to once it's born? I'm near the St Ann's Road/Seven Sisters road intersection but willing to go further afield (Green Lanes?)to find someone good.
Please help! Thanks

That sounds awful! It's amazing just how bad GPs can be, and how good. Mine in Highgate is fantastic, but that's probably way too far for you. Good luck with your search anyway.

Just moved here from Highgate! groan! Also ex-Aussie... even missing Medicare right now. Ah well

Was your terrible service from The Laurels? It's pretty chaotic there at the moment with the 'refurbishment' if so BUT over the last 5 years of being registered there I've had more good/even excellent GPs than poor ones. I was considering moving surgeries after a dealing with female doctor (Dr P), but have since been happy that I stayed.
Other than that, there's one at the bottom of Grove Road/St Ann's Road, but don't know how many GPs etc.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and sorry to hear about your bad experience with your GP.

Not sure if the location would work for you but I'm with Queenswood practice (near Crouch End lido) and it's on the W7 bus route. Although they often run behind schedule, I've never struggled to get an appointment and the doctors have all been great when I've had to see anyone. Ive also recently used their 'emergency doctor' phone service, which was really good.

I am at the Laurels (Laurels Neighbourhood Practice not Laurels Medical Practice which is in same building). I find the receptionists rude, the phones impossible to get through on and have had problems with Dr P (older woman) and Dr K (younger woman), though recently complained about both and was told Dr P now retired and Dr K was locum they no longer use. Saw Dr Solomon recently and she was very nice. I am going to stay there for now because it is convenient and also they have great walk in service which could be good with a baby, and it is where you have to go for blood tests etc anyway. But I always come out of any dealings with the admin staff there way more stressed than a trip to docs should make you.

Lordship Lane medical centre? I don't know if it's too far for you, the phonelines are a pain, but the drs are all amazing.

Yes it was Laurels. I've since had recommendations from a few people for Lordship Lane medi centre so I will try to register there once baby is born. Such a shame, as it's my closest GP - except the Grove Road one - but that is very small I think, with only one Dr.

There are major problems with the Laurels now; we moved to Lawrence House surgery on Philip Lane, who have been great so far.

The Vale Practice is excellent, on Park Road - small, very personal service and always able to get an appointment quickly. Also they are brilliant at remembering my children and their foibles - and I LOVE the nurse there who does all the baby jabs. Great practice.
