Nice cafes or coffee shops (or gastro style pubs?) in Oxfordshire which are either suitable for toddlers and / or accepting of breasfeeders

Loads. I haven't found anywhere breast feeding unfriendly yet... Where are you based?

Millets Farm is very good for toddlers - play area and animals to cuddle. Blenheim palace is also good and doing a special offer on entry.

For cafe/restaurant type things, I've found Quod on the High Street is very good and toddler friendly as is Mamma Mia pizza in Summertown.

Burford garden centre is ideal.

Whereabouts (roughly) are you?

MrsBadger · 07/09/2010 14:11

are you driving or walking?
only if you;re coming by car don't bother with the city centre and if you;re on the bus I won;t bother you with farm shops...

TonariNoTotoro · 07/09/2010 14:40

Yep, tell us where you are and I will try and help :)

Rindercella is right about Burford though, it's perfect. Brilliant playground too.

we are in wheatley at the moment and I do have a car but I have worked out that the city centre is a no go unless by bus which with 2 under 2 does not appeal to me too much although in the future I would like to go into the centre of oxford much more
thanks for the suggestions which are all do-able

Benson waterfront is nice too

2 under 2s into oxford def possible on bus with sling and reins - I do it quite a lot, but it is hard work

the new adventure playground on the Abingdon Rd (opposite 4 Pillars hotal) is great and has parking but no cafe

If you want to go a little further afield by car, there are lots of nice places. Waddesdon Manor (between Bicester & Aylesbury) has a super outdoor play area, built on several different levels suitable for different ages. It has a couple of nice restaurants/cafes too. The National Herb Centre in Warmington just north of Banbury has a nice outdoor play area, a great walk track, super views and a very decent cafe (far superior to the usual garden centre cafes).

Just to add, my DD(3) absolutely loves going into Oxford on the bus. That in itself is a major treat and exciting expedition, let alone going to see the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum (big favourite outing) followed by cafe cake at Blackwells while we read stories.

Waterperry gardens almost on your doorstep has goodish cafe and lots of space for runners around.
Second the bus; I have 2 DC, now 4.5 and 1.8 and a trip into Oxford is almost a weekly treat (and has been since I had only 1 DC, so regularly did it with 2 under 3). Most Ox buses take pushchairs and that plus sling/ back carrier keeps both children under control!

If you do venture into Oxford on the bus (I( did it with 2-year-old twins and a baby, but always avoided rush hour!)there are several places which I think of which would be good: the cafe in MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) on Pembroke Street (has a lift to get to basement with a buggy; Rainbow Cafe (run by volunteers in the Baptist Church on New Inn Hall St), has lots of toys, space to run around, good and very reasonably priced food; the toddler group at St Ebbes (Sparklers) is also very good - often has good cake and lots of helpers and toys. Sorry, don't know about gastropubs, wish I did!
