schools in Wimbledon

Hi,

Just reading through some previous threads about living in Wimbledon and schools. We moved into Wimbledon this summer and we're waiting to hear about a place for ds who will be going into yr 2 (hopefully next week!!)

I was just wondering Curlybubba (if you're still around) if you decided on a school and if you've settled in to Wimbledon?

Because I don't know which school they're going to allocate to us, I can't even buy the uniform yet.... but can anyone give me an idea of what ds will need in terms of uniform and bag and anything else you can think of - or does it vary too much from school to school?

We've come from Canada where children don't wear school uniforms so it's a bit daunting - especially since we're going to get such short notice.

I appreciate anyone's help!!

Hi Gottasmile, to which school did they allocate you?

DS is in Yr 2 at WPPS.

Hi MaeMobley,

They still haven't allocated us a school! I've been told to just wait and that ds definitely won't be starting this week. So frustrating as he really loves and needs school.

We're hoping to get into Bishop Gilpin, because it's a one minute walk away and we've heard it's a great school.

And forgot to ask how your ds finds WPPS?

Sorry, never came back to this thread. DS loves WPPS. It is a very "caring" type of school with a reputation for not being very academic -although a new head has just started and his aim is to improve academic standards whilst keeping the strong caring ethos.

So Gottasmile, where is your DS? are you home schooling?

MaeMobley · 15/09/2010 13:34

Yes, I have also heard anout BG being a great school. I hope your DS got a place.

Hi MaeMobley,

My ds finally started school last Thursday. The LEA found him a place in Holy Trinity, which is a 20 minute walk away.

It seems like a great school, but ds is complaining about the walk! I do have dh's car to drive (it's big and I don't like driving it) but it looks like it would be difficult to park around there anyway.

I'm glad your ds likes is school. My ds doesn't seem overly enthusiastic yet about school but it's early days yet.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have heard good things about HT too. You must be relieved.

Trishee · 20/09/2010 21:41

Not sure if this is something you'd consider, but all three of my boys went to Donhead from yr3-6 and they loved it. It is one of the only schools I know of that kids actively adore. Yes it's a private Catholic prep, but I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

My eldest just left for uni yesterday and some of his best friends are still the mates he made at Donhead.

My boys went to Dundonald first, which was fine, but it has undergone a lot of changes since then so I wouldn't feel comfortable commenting on it anymore.

MaeMobley · 21/09/2010 18:38

Hi Trishee, where did your boys go after Donhead? starting to stress about secondary school.

gottasmile · 22/09/2010 11:40

Hi Trishee,

I think I'll be sticking to HT, unless BG say there's a place (in which case ds can decide, since he's the one who would have to change schools again.) At the moment ds seems quite happy there.

I'm glad I don't have to worry about secondary school yet!
