Anybody live in or near Girvan?

Anybody live in or near Girvan and want to tell me nice things about it?
Dh wants to move there, all my family are in SE England, so I would love some reasons why it is the right thing to do other than the lovely houses.
Dh is Scottish and he has been living in SE England for over 10 years so i feel as though i ought to give it a chance, but I do not relish the thought of moving to somewhere I do not know anyone, so far away from my family, but think it could be good for all of us.
We have 4 dc's so would be a big change.
so, please tell me nice things about Girvan and the surrounding area if you can!

Sorry no, but didn't want to leave post unanswered :) Why don't you all come up for a holiday? That way you can have a look around before making a decision?

I agree come up for a holiday see what you think if it.

From what I remember Girvan is a small seaside town, not much going on though, nice for a day trip to the seaside but not somewhere I would chose to live in the Winter especially. (I'm originally from a similar town).

Personally for me it's too far away from Glasgow, I might go as far as Ayr or Troon if I could afford it.

Depends what you are looking for , where youa re just now etc only one way to find out go live there for a week and I would go in the Winter not in the few days of sunshine Summertime

Ayr is a bit bigger, good schools, near the motorway

parts of Ayr are very expensive for housing

Ayr
Girvan

Is your Dh from Girvan? If so, surely you have been to visit once in the years you have been married? Do his family live locally?

Are your children in school yet?

surrounding area is beautiful, though there is a fair bit of deprivation in some bits. some lovely villages.

culzean, maidens, turnberry all in spitting distance, all lovely.

secondary school had poor report but that has changed and there are always a group of high achievers ang great community links. teaching quality good.

glaasgow 60 ish miles for culture.

i've always found people to be friendly especially if you are willing to get involved in communiy.

i am between ayr and girvan, so there's me too. Wink

i used to live in stranraer, around 30 mins drive from girvan, and i can honestly tell you there is nothing there, its god awful! my friend lived there and moved back to stranraer as there wasn't even as much as a parent and toddlers group. If you fancy moving to a pretty scottish town thats not so rural try troon. Its gorgeous and olny 40 mins from glasgow by train.

Good luck

Would echo folks saying Troon or Ayr. Girvan is just that bit too far away from 'stuff' for my liking. Ayr has a fairly decent shopping centre and nice bars/restaurants, and Troon is lovely and only 40 minutes from glasgow on the train. I would not be happy living in Girvan, no siree.
