She's coming up sat lunch till tues lunch to see me and her new 3 month grand daughter. I need to have some ideas of stuff we can do to break up the crippling awkwardness (imagine she is actually my MIL and that will give you clue to relationship)

I've got as far as coffee and cakes in John Lewis on sat afternoon (will that bankrupt me?)

Was thinking maybe pollok park on sun- stroll around outside if nice, burrell if minging. Feeding her sunday dinner (she is staying in hotel)

Baby jabs monday morning so thats covered. Prob wouldn't see her tues [hopeful emoticon] but might need back up plan in case.

Pollok Park is good - and I'd go into the Burrell even if the weather is poor, as it is interesting, takes up some time (!!) and the coffee shop is very good value! Pollok House is nice as well.

Kelvingrove Museum? If she is at all interested in history/religion the Cathedral/St Mungo's Museum (again good coffee shop in a Zen Garden) and Provand's Lordship are all close together on the High Street and if the weather is nice its actually quite nice to take a stroll round the Necropolis!

If you have transport and the weather is good, could you get out of Glasgow a little on Monday afternoon or Sunday - Loch Lomond, Mugdock Park, Queen Elizabeth Forest Park in Aberfoyle?

Sorry if these are all things you already know. Feel free to ask more, I am the doyenne of all things Glasgow Coffee Shop Based!

There's also a lovely cafe at the town end of Kelvingrove Park, called An Clachan. There's a little playpark directly outside it, so it gives you something to watch, if you've not got much chat.

Good luck :)

There's a family fun day on Saturday at Pollok Park so it'll probably be heaving then - you could perhaps lose her in the crowd if you get desperate?

the tall ship is free this weekend also:)

Glasgow Green and the Winter Gardens for coffee? There's the Peoples Palace there if you want something to look round.

Botanics are also great for a wander and then up Byres Rd for coffee.
