Cambridge parks

Following a post about park crawls in another thread I thought it might be useful to share our favourite parks in Cambridge so we can try out some new ones in the summer holidays.

My children's faves are:
Huston curly wurly (with the helter skelter)
Lammas land
Cherry hinton hall
Richmond road (zip wire and good climbing frame)
West stow park
Girton park (wood and trim trail too)

Any others we should try?

ooh, I was about to ask about a park - has anyone been to Wandlebury country park? I'm off there next weekend with work, and need ideas on what to do with a 10 month old!!

NoSleepTillWeaning · 21/07/2010 12:31

Haven't been to wandlebury for years! It's a country park so think green space and walks rather than swings. There's a loop you can walk on the roman road, although I can't now work out how you get a circle out of a roman road .

Wandlebury doesn't have climbing things... you walk. Think the roman road and the circle (known as the ring are different). WE love Wandlebury - the ring is perfec for a 2 year old to walk round. It costs £2 to park.

We love Lammas land and the park at Grantchester...

but TBH all the parks in cambridge are pretty fab

cazzybabs · 21/07/2010 14:32

ohh also like milton country park

mell242 · 21/07/2010 15:29

Milton definitely, great cafe, good walks, lovely wildlife and great swings etc. for the kids

Octavia09 · 24/07/2010 22:37

Cherry Hinton used to be a really good place for the kids when they had a slide and a tunnel. I think it was burnt down by yobs last summer.

another vote for Milton here,
if you have a national trust card it isn't a huge leap to Anglesea Abbey, it is lovely for the children to run not playground though.

Vallhala · 26/07/2010 23:18

Milton gets my vote too.

Jesus Green, whilst not a park, has lots of space, a playground and DID have an open air swimming pool (don't know if it's still open?).

There are swans to feed on the river and ducklings on the stream and it appears now not to have the problem with junkies which blighted it when I lived in the city.

jesus green sweimming pool is still very much alove and well! friends DH was swimming there this morning

NoSleepTillWeaning · 29/07/2010 09:39

Was he wearing a wetsuit?

Apparently Jesus Green have opened a small cafe now so you can get a sandwich and a coffee. Haven't been there to check it out though. If you 'Like' them on Facebook you can see their updates on the pool temp so you know whether you need the wetsuit .

mooki · 02/08/2010 16:22

We've been to the Newnham paddling pool a couple of times this season and enjoyed it and the related park stuff.

(do people call this one lammas land? I get my commons so easily muddled)

Nosleep - where is the first one on your list? I've not heard of huston? Or is that Histon? My DD would love to try a helter skelter.

NoSleepTillWeaning · 03/08/2010 13:11

Doh - I hadn't noticed the chance to Huston! Bit of a way to go..... No, I did mean Histon. It's just after the football ground if you are coming from town, take he hex right hand turn and you can park right next to the playground. You can see the curly wurly slide as you come down the slope from the bridge.

Not chance, change. Must turn off the autocorrect thingy, or at least pay attention!

Btw Jesus green is the only pool that will let you swim in a wetsuit. Useful for budding triathletes.

we are coming to Jesus Green on the weekend for a show at the Marquee (Kids) club. Is there likely to be parking nearby / on the side streets or should we take the park and ride? We usually head to the Grafton side but that seems like a fair walk (and an earlier start for an already too early 10am show!!)

AuntieBulgaria · 03/08/2010 22:32

Kiwibella - which day? we're going to the one on sunday morning.

The Park Street car park is nearest to Jesus Green.

There is parking along Chesterton Road/Northampton Street but it's often busy.

kiwibella · 04/08/2010 13:21

same AB! We're going to Elliot and the Tooth Fairy . Thanks for the info for car-parking.

See you there!

NoSleepTillWeaning · 05/08/2010 12:13

On a Sunday you can park on Victoria avenue, if you can find a space!
