Has anyone done NCT Early Days classes?

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone had done the NCT 'Early Days' postnatal classes in/around Cambridge (or anywhere, really). I'm going to be a first-time mum, and am signed up for the antenatal ones, but wondering whether to sign up for the postnatal ED ones too - apologies to anyone from the NCT on here, but they didn't seem enormously content-ful from the description in the literature, just a structured way to have the chats that hopefully I'll be having with new mum acquaintances anyway.

And they've offered me one starting at the very end of March, when I'm due 19th January so hopefully it won't be entirely 'early days' for me by then (though obviously still all quite new), and I won't quite still be in desperate crisis mode?! (Or am I kidding myself?!) So not sure how much use they'll be by then, if they really are supposed to be about the early days.

Anyway, any thoughts very welcome - thank you!

I did the Early Days course a few years ago and it was brilliant - probably the best thing I did.
The course content wasn't particularly stretching, but the other mums were fantastic - a really good group of friends (many pub lunches, coffee sessions and play dates as the children grew older).

I think the courses are aimed at mums with 2 or 3 month old babies - it's the time when the reality of having a baby is really setting in, a lot of the support you get in the first few weeks is fading away and you are ready to look for new friends and support.

Oh, and when your days and nights are blurring into one, it is lovely and normal to have something regular in the diary that you 'have' to get to.

Thanks, piprabbit - that's very helpful. It's true that that is probably quite a difficult point where it's still v. hard going indeed re. sleep etc. but the cards and visitors have dried up. I can see the appeal of having a scheduled thing - anything - at that stage! And it also probably isn't very expensive in the grand scheme of things, so perhaps I'll go for it. Any other thoughts/views welcome of course.

I run

I run postnatal courses for the Nct having done the training.
I use to be a Health Visitor for 17years but now I only run NCT courses as I am convinced that this way of working with new mums is the best way. (being a mum myself)

The aim is to give a foundation for motherhood, to work out how you personnally want to fight your way through the trends, info & advice, whilst dealing with your ever active 'mummy-chip' that makes you feel guilty, anxiuos & judged.

Go for it!
let me know if disappointed then I can feed back up the line.

The Early Days Title is misleading; Postnatal is Forever...Ideas for new names welcome.
