Commuting by car from Tunbridge Wells to Bromley

OK, I know this is ludicrously specific and not that many of you will know much about Bromley. But I am desperate and would appreciate ANY replies, no matter how unhelpful. I am thinking of changing my life a bit which would mean commuting from Twells to Bromley, but I have absolutely no idea how long this would take (AA website says 45 mins but that's not during rush hour) or how much it would cost in petrol or ANYTHING. So would really appreciate any thoughts on how stupid or clever an idea this is from anyone with even a vaguely similar journey, and any ideas on time and cost. Will also post in Bromley forum.

Thanks!

I think this is doable in 45 mins, depending on what time you leave. If you can get through Southborough by 7.30am then 40 mins should be about right. You need to be on the road before all the school run traffic clogs up the way out to the A21.

I used to live in Bromley. Traffic coming into Bromley along the A21 is very busy. I reckon you would need to allow between 45 minutes and an hour during rushhour. Not sure about cost but it's about 30 miles.

I don't do the drive regularly, and not at rush hour, but I would have thought that you wouldn't be looking at all that much less than an hour journey by car. More by rail because you'd have to change at sevenoaks at least, but possibly Orpington and then sevenoaks.

Hope someone else can help.

Actually, this is pretty useful so far, I am a little reassured that I could do it in an hour or less if I avoid the worst of rush hour, it sounds like it's probably doable if I just figure out when to leave.

I currently commute to and from central London by train which takes 90 mins door to door and costs about £3500 a year, so you'd have thought it wouldn't be that tough for this new journey to beat it on price and time. I mean, £3500 for God's sake. Madness.

I live in tunbridge wells and worked in bromley (on mat leave). The only thing is I didn't leave at rush hour. (I did shift work). If you leave before rush hour traffic I can get there in 30 mins.

As for petrol. When I drive my car a nissan micra (not very economical one) its £40 a week in petrol. If I drive my husbands car a skoda diesel its £40 every 2 weeks! definately worth getting a diesel!

hope this helps
