Glad everyone is having a lovely Christmas day. The trifle turned out lovely in the end - dh has decided that there was too much baking powder in the recipe for our altitude [geek emoticon] but there was plenty to line the bottom of the bowl! Onto cheese and biscuits now and watching the cricket updates. Merry Christmas!

jabberwocky · 26/12/2010 17:15

And a belated Merry Christmas e-card

Grockle · 26/12/2010 21:01

Happy Boxing Day everyone.

It's lovely to be back on this thread. Hope everyone is well and having a fab holiday. I'm loving not being at work and having tuneful think and breathe.

Yuletide blessings y'all

kickassangel · 27/12/2010 01:17

soo, grockle = sb,
mme bucket = dooney,
and climber is now someone else.

i'm confused.

grockle, why the name change?

tadventjennyp · 28/12/2010 01:29

Climber has turned into penguinarmy! Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and has had lots of time to relax.

MmeBucket · 28/12/2010 02:39

Christmas was lovely here. Hopefully everyone else had a great day, too.

jabberwocky · 28/12/2010 02:48

It was a nice relaxing day for us - which is actually unusual.

Doubly good as Monday at work was sooooo tiring. Putting out one fire after another it seemed. I feel like I've been mountain climbing and got stuck out on some cliff for the night.

tadventjennyp · 28/12/2010 03:56

Saw a documentary about three blokes hanging from a ledge on a mountain for days in a snow storm. You have my sympathy. Isn't today supposed to be a holiday though? Glad you both had a lovely time over Christmas.

jabberwocky · 28/12/2010 10:30

lol, will have to tell my staff about that one. We took Friday off and will be off this Friday as well - otherwise, no rest for the weary Xmas Wink

Grockle · 28/12/2010 16:06

I changed name for various reasons when I moved.

I'm having a lovely afternoon, working in front of the telly watching Just William whilst waiting for my new bed to arrive. How are the little Buckets, Mme? ANd how's life for everyone else?

kickassangel · 29/12/2010 01:36

love the word grockle, although it is a bit 'this shop is for local people, ya know', but it's such a lovely sounding word.

don't think you really are one, though? or do you make a habit of grockling?

Grockle · 29/12/2010 08:53

Well, I was not born and raised here and am therefore (and always will be) in the locals' eyes, a grockle. But that's ok. I live in a fabulous part of the world and am very happy here. Grockle's not so bad.

MrsDmamee · 31/12/2010 00:51

Hi EVERYONE.
im quite new to the thread and new to living in America will be here in New mexico 2 months next week.

Hope everyone's christmas was good, mine was different, quieter..and i think we all felt a bit lost with no family to visit.Xmas Sad

Ds's got a ton of lego and it was our DD's 1st christmas.

At the moment i feel like i could never spend another christmas away from home and we could be here for 2-3 years.

tadventjennyp · 31/12/2010 04:29

Lack of family can be a problem. Can they not come to yours next year? Especially as I imagine the weather is quite nice where you are. Smile

This is our third Christmas here and the time difference can make it difficult to speak to people. The weather has been so bad at both ends that it might have been really awkward to travel. I would hate to have been stuck in an airport and for dh's small amount of time off to be used in that way.

PenguinArmy · 31/12/2010 04:51

I had a tough few weeks and lost this thread so will get round to catching up. That is also the time I namechanged (but not to hide from no-one, more myself).

Is anyone as boring as me and have no plans for New Years?

Climber/Pengiun

tadventjennyp · 31/12/2010 04:56

What is New Year's Eve again? You do realise that they just repeat the celebrations from New York on the telly, don't you? No Jools Holland Hootenanny, no Big Ben....

jabberwocky · 31/12/2010 08:08

There is a party that I would love to go to but atm no babysitter and dh still not really well enough so I am pretty sure we will be doing this one at home. Too bad, when I was younger I loved New Year's Eve parties.

MrsDmamee, I was in Taos a few years ago. Beautiful!

PenguinArmy · 01/01/2011 00:54

DD is ill and can't sleep without company as she waked up every 5 mins, so looks like me and DH will be tag teaming the whole evening instead of drinking and watching TV.

midtowner · 01/01/2011 01:33

Sorry for barging in, it's a long time since I posted on this thread Smile.

We are staying in and watching the telly - probably Fargo or an Ealing comedy recorded earlier this week by DH. DS 1 in bed, but not asleep, and DS2 still up. We were supposed to have friends from UK staying, but their flight didn't arrive because of the blizzards on the East Coast on Monday.

Hope you all have a good New Year, whatever you end up doing!

MrsDmamee · 01/01/2011 22:19

Hi,
Didnt do much for new years last night..watched the ball drop live from New york then felt a bit cheated as we had still 2 hours to wait..what about the rest of the country!!!!

Its been very cold past few days we had a blizzard and temps down to under -5 celcius. farenheit temps have me all confused.

So i really doubt anyone would want to visit us next christmas for a frozen xmas in the desert of new mexico. IL's might visit us in the summer they have said.

PenguinArmy · 02/01/2011 01:57

I missed the New York celebrations.

Our ILs have announced they'll be over in the summer after all (had said it was too long of a plane ride) but will stay in a hotel. I'm a bit worried that it will make all the arrangements rather formal. We can't just wake up and see what happens. Although I understand and respect their decision, it would be good if they stayed as then they could take DD when she wakes at 5am Grin

We're going to Vegas in a couple of weekends as my brother is staying. Is Hoover Dam worth a visit? I was wanting to go the Stratosphere, but otherwise not too sure. I don't do casinos although my brother loves them.

tadventjennyp · 02/01/2011 02:07

On the West Coast we get the ball at midnight but it is 3 hours late! I couldn't believe it either so last night we just celebrated when it turned midnight on the clock!

What you have to remember with Fahrenheit is that 100F is bloody hot, 32F is freezing point and much lower than that is really cold. I'm not great on the inbetween but think that 75 is pleasant enough for me! Grin

tadjennyp · 02/01/2011 19:03

Happy New Year everyone! Smile

Grockle · 02/01/2011 21:19

Happy new year from England

MmeBucket · 04/01/2011 22:11

Late Happy New Year from me. We spent NYE with the same friends we did last year. We could only stay until about 10, because DS had a 6:45 am soccer game New Year's day.
