Hi everyone,

Just wondering if there are any of you currently living in Cyprus. I'm from the UK, been living in Cyprus for about 4 years now and am expecting first baby in September. I am on a few local forums buy just having a nosey to see if there are any mn-ers on this tiny little island too!!

Well, DH and I moved here with my family a few years back but family decided they didn't really like it and one by one moved back home! I'm indifferent about it, I have good and bad days but we worked damn hard to make a life here and didn't want to just abandon it!
So we're still here, DH likes it OK and remote works from home so not too bad. I don't work due to being totally rubbish at learning Greek so am sometimes hideously bored and homesick!
Good thing is there are alot of ex-pats here starting up businesses so I'm very seriously looking into that before I go loopy!
Decided to stay here for baby being born as healthcare is great (although expensive) and I'm a bit freaked out about the whole surprise baby, foreign country, no family around thing but finally learning to relax!
So what about you? I've met a few people from Syria here and they seem nice but I do know about the "cut off" feeling! It's not so easy!

DH got transferred last year. given the current economic situation we figured at least he still has a job and surely syria cant be all that bad?

turns out its ok actually. i mean, its an awesome place to visit (what with Damascus being like, 7 thousand years old and stuff) sliiiightly less fun to live .

but the weather is beautiful and we have a lovely garden and swimmin pool so that eases my pain somewhat.

its mainly the language barrier thats hard. going literrally weeks sometimes without being able ot have a proper conversation with someone is hard. and i think it would be immesurably worse if my DH wasnt prepared to speak to me like 11 times a day on the phone.

lol, totally understand the 'whole suprise baby, foreign country, no family around thing' i did that in Dubai. it did all work out, and im sure it will for you too. but jeeze its hard!
