Anyone?

Depends how far you want to go - I'd like an excuse to try the renovated Bristol... is that too far afield?

othersideofthechannel · 04/04/2010 07:19

Do you mean here?

Mornyville · 04/04/2010 18:58

flyingcloud here under a new guise...

I have a question for Parisien(ne)s: DH has long expressed a desire to go to the Tour d'Argent and I've booked a table (gulp... it'll be bread and lentils for the next few months) for his birthday which falls just after our wedding anniversary.

I want to surprise him - he will be arriving on his own and I will meet him there. Can anyone recommend a good restaurant within five minutes walking distance that I can give as our meeting point, to try and throw him off the scent?

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/04/2010 16:21

The Bristol is within spitting distance from where I work, so I'll say yes.

Bonsoir · 05/04/2010 19:17

Great, please CAT me and we'll set a date

thereistheball · 06/04/2010 07:32

Hello! Thanks teafortwo for alerting me to this. I've been away for Easter but am back now and v much on for a meet-up. So please count me in!

dilbertina · 06/04/2010 09:40

oooh, and me! I'll have to get the train in with Brio from 78!

rosietoes · 07/04/2010 14:01

Mornyville,
Oh la la! how fun! dream to go there before I turn, um, very old and don't have any teeth!

How much does he know about the Tour d'Argent? Could tell him to meet you at le Rotisserie du Beaujolais, unless he would google it & find out its connection to TdA.

Otherwise, le Coupe Chou, 11 Rue de Lanneau is lovely/anniversary-ish and near.

rosietoes · 07/04/2010 14:14

(gasp!)
LA rotisserie!

(imagining a French wide-nostrilled sniff for lack of gender knowledge!)

teafortwo · 07/04/2010 15:48

rosietoes - I think if I have added 2 and 2 correctly here that your dd and my dd are likely to be in the same class next year at school. Am I right...?

flyingcloud · 07/04/2010 21:06

Thanks rosietoes (back under my original name, didn't really like my new one that much). I've heard the food isn't all that (I think it's gone from three to one star or three to none and has regained one) but DH has always wanted to go there and apparently the atmosphere is very special.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/04/2010 20:25

Bonsoir, my CAT has expired - and my bank card is misbehaving, bear with me!

I walk through Parc Monceau in the morning on my way to work, and when I am running late, coincide with the EAB school run. There seem to be a lot more Anglo children there than at the Lamartine branch.

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 08/04/2010 20:33

OK OK I thought you'd wimped out changed your mind .

I don't know anything much about Lamartine, but there are quite a few Anglo (or Franco-Anglo) families at EaB. Anyway, I am totally reconciled to EaB at present, having had a good look at everything else a bit biligual on offer! I'm sure EaB is best for my DD (but of course everyone's Anglo or bilingual family and aspirations are different).

rosietoes · 09/04/2010 15:53

Hi teafortwo! (humming the tune now)

Fingers crossed DD will be in the same class. We went for interview and were told 'beaucoup de dossiers, pas assez d'espace'.
We are 'en tete de la liste d'attente' and wait with baited breath! (or is it bated?)

Looking forward to this meet-up! We may be in place by July if it can't wait til Sept.

rosietoes · 09/04/2010 15:59

flyingcloud,

I've also heard the food is not as great as it was, and there are a lot of tourists, but still it's a 'go there once for the ambiance' kind of treat!
But your pressed duck will be numbered and added to the list of dignified diners from the past!

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/04/2010 20:35

Rosietoes - I have managed, somehow, to cock up my bank account (think got password wrong and have been locked out). Could you pse pass my hotmail address on to Bonsoir? And I will see if I can revive my expired CAT

OP posts:
rosietoes · 10/04/2010 17:52

Righty-oh, Mrs S

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/04/2010 21:42

Thank you!

And when your DD is in EAB, we can have a coffee after you have dropped her off and I dribble down Messine on my way to work.

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 11/04/2010 20:15

Right, thanks to Rosietoes, Bonsoir and I are in touch (and are VERY near neighbours!) and will be in contact shortly about dates/venue for meet up.

OP posts:
jamaisjedors · 12/04/2010 20:35

Ok, keep us all posted, and have fun!

rosietoes · 12/04/2010 22:56

Glad I was able to facilitate, Mrs S & Bonsoir, enjoy the Bristol. Looks luverly

Can't wait to meet all la compangnie!
Looking forward to it!

flyingcloud · 13/04/2010 09:33

Yes, enjoy it!

america · 17/04/2010 14:19

Sorry to have disappeared after my initial question and thanks for all replies.

DH accepted the job and starts in early-May so we are definitively moving over. Now looking for a house somewhere along the RER A line where we lived ages ago.

I had an interview this week too and it was terrifying, my first interview in French for a long time. They said that my French sounds ok for a foreigner but still made me write a redaction (!!!) in the end of the interview. I felt completely crushed afterwards and hate the idea of continuing to look for a job there. But, I'd love to join you

teafortwo · 17/04/2010 23:54
  • HOW EXCITING - congrats america!!!
