I have been in Switzerland for 18 months,
its great for the kids at the moment and my husband, not so great for me at the moment. I feel quite lonley and different, I have tried to learn German, making slow progress but am quite sproradic in my efforts, if I am having a bad week or couple of weeks, I just dont bother.

I am fixated with the idea of going back to the UK, because I miss that sense of belonging, I think maybe its stopping me enjoying it here. I was a SAHM in UK for 10 years, I was on the threshold of being able to think about work or retraining. I dont see any opportunities here. I think that is part of the problem. My DH is really frustrated with me, because it is so lovely here.

Just having a whinge really but would be nice to hear from others who understand.

The only issue I see with the ESL courses is finding a job. I am qualified to teach TESOL but the only one I was offered was inlingua in Luzern at silly times which would not be conducie to family life.

I think with those type of language school franchises, the way it works is you have to be with them a year or so to get your foot firmly in the door and then when they see you are reliable and also likely to stay awhile, they are more accommodating with times etc.

If you have good material and are a confident teacher already, I would consider writing directly to companies and working free-lance. Still a bit of a lonely life I suppose

ZZZ, not an issue for me any more, we are leaving in july. I need to look into it for Antwerp though.

ZZZenAgain · 25/03/2010 11:01

hope you like it in Antwerp kreecher.

Thanks. We're just trying to get our certificate of good character from our gemiende. Honestly you'd think we had asked for the golden fleece. Neither of us have committed a crime (apart from speeding or parking) and we don't have any debts. Blooming country. OTOH, we've got about four months before we go.

Hey ImmaculataConception

I'm in Asturias, Green Spain.

IlovePonies - hope you're feeling more optomistic. For me, I try and tell myself "nothings forever". And I try and enjoy where I am at the moment. I have put a list together of the things and places I want to see and do while I am here and when I get to do them, I tick it off.
