I went back to Kessel Lo park today, with the intention of taking the children swimming on this beautiful day (the temperature is going up to 30°C), but despite getting there half an hour before the pool opened we didn't stand a chance of getting in, there were hundreds of people with the same idea as me. The girls played in the park for about an hour, but in all that time, the queue to the pool didn't appear to be moving, just getting longer.

Dd1 was very disappointed so we took two buses to the Sportoase pool which was surprise surprise virtually empty. It's the first time I've taken all three children swimming on my own, and now I'm exhausted.

Hope you are all having a good day!

Ah, it's since it became Carrefour market instead of GB. All in the name of progress!

Romanarama · 08/09/2009 13:01

Hello! I moved to Brussels last week, and am trying to sort out our 'maison' in Uccle at the mo, with dcs at school.

I would like to come to your meet-up if poss. I don't have any plans as yet apart from parents meetings, so no date no-nos for me!

LongtimeinBrussels · 08/09/2009 20:10

Hi Romanarama, if you have any questions just ask. I've been here 24 years now so may be able to help. I live in Auderghem so not so far away. My advice to you at this point would be to join the BCT even if your children are at school (unless they're really old!) as you can go to coffee mornings (there's an Uccle group) without DCs and meet lots of nice mums plus there are activities outside of school hours for the DCs. They have a website here.

Does GB/Carrefour in Tervuren still have the Aisle of Shame, aka "A Taste of Britain" where you can pick up your spaghetti hoops and gravy granules?

LongtimeinBrussels · 09/09/2009 07:42

MrsSchadenfreude, the GB's been done up and it's now called Carrefour market. They've moved everything around but there is still an aisle of British stuff (though I think less than before). It makes me laugh that you can buy Heinz baked beans in this aisle for twice the price of the Heinz baked beans in the 'Belgian' tinned stuff aisle. Why would anyone do that?

My youngest ds has finished at the school now so I won't be making trips out there anymore as dd goes to a local school. One of my only opportunities to speak Dutch gone and no more Galaxy Ripples for me!

Romanarama · 09/09/2009 09:26

Thank you! (I had already noticed that about the beans in Carrefour..... ).

I do have a couple of questions: recommendations for boys clothes, not too expensive, and any really family friendly restaurants around the bois de la Cambre maybe for regular Sunday lunches?

Welcome to Belgium Romanarama and Prettyballerina.

I'm afraid I can't commit to the next meet up at the moment, go ahead and organise it without me. Hopefully I'll be able to come, but dh is very busy and life is getting more complicated.

I have joined the BCT

LongtimeinBrussels · 09/09/2009 15:33

Romanarama, glad to hear you've joined the BCT. Even if you only use it for information it's worth it. I'm still a member and still useful things in the newsletter.

How old are your DSs? Mine are 20 and 18 so they most probably don't buy their clothes in the same shops as you're thinking of. When they were younger I used to buy their clothes in C & A. This was in the days before H & M where my 10 year old dd prefers to get her clothes.

In my experience, restaurants here tend to be family friendly. I'll have a think about one near Bois de la Cambre.

Thanks Longtime. My boys are 7, 4 and 3
