I am trying to find a coat for my nearly 2 yr old daughter. Have been to local boutiques - horrifyingly expensive, Pumpkin Patch - nothing nice and KMart/Big W - cheap and shite. So have found nothing. What I really need is a quick trip to M & S or Next but I really don't know what the Australian equivalent is. Has anyone bought a coat for a 2 yr old this year? Got any ideas? Maybe something on-line???

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks x

This is the hot topic of conversation at the school gate! Toddler's coats and how they don't seem to exist. I didn't come over until January so I have one. The shop I like the most is seed

savoycabbage · 29/05/2009 04:48

That's nice. I have been looking for a foldy up raincoat for my older dd for school.

savoycabbage · 29/05/2009 04:49

I can't find any tights.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 29/05/2009 04:51

Thanks savoycabbage, I like Seed too but $130 for a hooded raincoat - aaarrrggghghhhghghghghgghhhhh!

Just looked again $150 for a wool coat - eeeeek. Nice coat, but blimey.

Interesting to note that it's not just me that's finding it hard. I can get hold of a thin raincoat ok, but a warm winter coat is near impossible. Which I would understand if we lived in Darwin but here in the Adeliade Hills it gets pretty frosty.

I've been looking at internet sales in UK to see if anything left there but with no success. Sigh.

x post Savoy, I can get tights and raincoats at my local village (quite swanky) childrens shop - I'll post some to you .

It is chilly at the mo here isn't it ClaudiaSchiffer?

I quite like it though.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 29/05/2009 04:54

Oo ozziegirly, I love it. Was all foggy this morning and it was heavenly. The girls and I all walked to Kindy and had fun seeing our breath puff out ifkwim. So reminded me of home

I can't believe how expensive things are. It's practically cheaper to buy from the UK and have the stuff shipped over.

Cotton On is great (if you're a bit selective). Although I do find that you have to buy a few sizes larger, don't you? My kids are pretty average (size - obv extraordinary in other ways ) but I went and bought a load of 1-2 yr things, for my 20 month old and 4rd things for my nearly 4 yr old and it was all just about fitting and will be grown out of very shortly.

Just crashing your thread from NZ. You do know that both M+S and Boden deliver to Aus - maybe they have some coats in their sale sections (I know Boden have a sale section, not sure about M+S).

Failing that, Ebay?

savoycabbage · 29/05/2009 05:17

I can't look. It's too tempting. I miss H&M

brightongirldownunder · 29/05/2009 05:29

You could try Toby Tiger. Its a Brighton (UK) based company but you can buy online now (www.ctobytiger.co.uk). Lovely raincoats and matching wellies. Also does a Charlie and Lola one which was reduced last time I looked

brightongirldownunder · 29/05/2009 05:29

Sorry - www.tobytiger.co.uk

brightongirldownunder · 29/05/2009 05:30

meh...

Ozziegirly · 29/05/2009 05:33

I have some things winging their way from M&S as we speak! It was 20 pounds delivery but DH and I have stocked up on knickers/vests/night vest sets (me) and shorts/polo shirts/millions of socks (him).

I know it's silly and we have nice shops here, but I can't beat M&S knickers and their little vests I wear under so many things, and in bed and they survive wash after wash.

I wish M&S would open a branch here, they would make an absolute killing.

savoycabbage · 29/05/2009 05:50

I have looked at Toby Tiger thanks Brightongirl. They have got some lovely things. If I was going shopping in England I would probably speng about £7 on parking so £10 delivery is not that bad. I got some M&S stuff when there was the free international delivery.

Look at this coat CLaudiaschiffer

ClaudiaSchiffer · 29/05/2009 05:57

DAMN YOU ALL - particularly you Brightongirldownunder . Just looked at Toby Tiger and it's ggggggreat! (Sorry). Have just bought a pretty but rather average coat on line from here and now regretting it and want to buy the Toby Tiger one.

Hrumph.

Will check out the rest of their stuff. Thanks really Brightongirl.

I too long for M & S Ozziegirly. In fact I had rather a strange dream last night about shopping in a mixed up version of Waitrose and M & S foodhall. I was in shopping dream heaven until dd chose to wake me up. Bah.

Bonds do good knickers and vests though.

OP posts:
Ozziegirly · 29/05/2009 06:46

I like Bonds but DH doesn't like their pants and says they are too tight and the waistband is uncomfortable.

I quite like the tightness look of them.

I really miss Waitrose. There are no properly upmarket food supermarkets like that are there? I don't actually mind Coles and Woolies, but I used to browse in Waitrose and now it's a quick in and out.

But my shopping bill is probably half and I don't come home with 5 types of cheese so I guess it's a good thing.
