Hi - I've been here a few weeks and have just been given a nursery place for DD, starting immediately. I need to provide lots of papiers including these two that I'm not familiar with. Can anyone advise what they are and how I get them? They are needed by Wednesday...

Photocopie de l'avis d'imposition 2007 (?) - something to do with DH's work?

Also: une attestation d'assurance concernant l'enfant - something to do with insurance? Worried about this as not sure we have put any in place yet.

Haven't had time to google these yet - thought I'd trust to the wisdom of MN first as this call from the directrice has thrown me into an administrative panic and I have to go out now. Thanks in advance for your help! Will be back later...

L'avis d'imposition would be a tax statement. Presumambly you haven't been there long enough to get one?

The 2nd is certainly an insurance certificate. If France is like Belgium, your DH would be assigned to a mutelle organisation when he started his job, so his employer should be able to provide something. I'd get your DH to check with his HR department.

The "avis d'imposition 2007" is the piece of paper that you receive as a French income tax payer declaring how much income tax your household paid for 2007. If you have just moved to France you won't have this.

You need to take out insurance for your child (all children at crèche/school need this) and your family insurer (you must surely have one, if you have rented accommodation) will be able to help you.

BonsoirAnna · 11/05/2009 11:23

BTW, when you say "nursery" place, are you talking about a crèche, a garderie or a école maternelle^?

usedtoreadbooks · 11/05/2009 11:32

Thank you.

DD starving so am staying in while she eats.

I am talking about a garderie.

If I don't have a "avis d'imposition" could DH's employer provide something in its place?

Also, sorry to be thick about this but why do we need a family insurer if we have rented accommodation, and what exactly is a family insurer anyway? DH rented the flat back in December, long before I moved out here with DD. As far as I am aware we do not have family insurance. Should I go through DH's employer to get this, or any high st insurance firm? I really have no idea about this, as you might be able to tell. Thanks again for your help.

Re my earlier message, I'm talking about a garderie if that is a the same as an halte-jeux.

When we first got here and DD went to halte-garderie, we asked DH's employer for an "attestation" of his salary because we hadn't been here long enough to pay tax. I would check with the halte-jeux as to whether that would be acceptable.
I've never needed insurance for the garderie, but DD needs it for school - we just asked our home insurer to provide it and it cost an extra 10 euros or something fairly minimal. (Presumably even on a rented property you would have contents insurance - most agencies won't rent you a property without it). Otherwise I'm sure you could just go to any high street insurer.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of the need for children to be insured for school. Am checking with DH about who our insurer is (though am worried he didn't get round to it). I will also get him to get an attestation of his salary and take that in case that's OK. Sorry for sounding so clueless above - this move has happened quite rapidly and we are still catching up with ourselves a bit. Many thanks for your help!

Just to agree with the others:
You should be able to use some kind of salary attestation instead of an "avis d'imposition". We didn't even have a salary attestation as I was self-employed and DH was returning to study, but we eventually had something from the family benefit institution (caisse des allocations familiales) which seemed to suffice.

For the insurance - if you rent a house you have to take out contents insurance which also has to cover damage to the house itself. I would be amazed if your DH managed to rent a house without this, but do definitely check it out. If you do need an insurer in a hurry, we've found Axa very good. The insurer can then provide "assurance scolaire" for about 15 euros a year, although we were never asked for this at the halte-garderie and even the school has never checked whether we had it or not.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions...

Hi - just wanted to say thanks very much everyone for your help. Yes DH had taken out insurance, but hadn't mentioned it and had stuffed the papers in the back of a drawer somewhere Anyway DD is now enrolled in a lovely halte-jeux 2 afternoons a week, with the option of 3 sessions next year. And the Directrice has shown me a way round some of the other admin I was having headaches with, to do with registering for a doctor. Am delighted that DD will be hearing French and spending time with other children. As for me, I am sure I will be having a siesta in the gym.

There are two types of insurance.

Responsabilité civile. It's included in your home insurance policy and you need an 'attestation' from your insurer to prove you have it in case your child breaks something or hurts someone.

Individuelle scolaire. Personal accident insurance for your child, required by most schools and some pre-school childcare.
