Possibly moving to Perth (WA, not Scotland!) at the end of the year

There's a possibility we might be moving to Perth at the end of the year. We already have PR and have been waiting for the right time, and this might be it!

Alternately terrified and excited but trying to plan as much as possible.

Can anyone point me to some websites etc where I can get details of nurseries/childminders etc (DS will be 3 in Jan 2010) and an idea of fees. Any specific recommendations would be good. We'll be living in Burns Beach.

Any general useful tips also appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

oooh, oooh! Me! Well us really.

We're going in September.

We'll be South of the River for a couple of years so looking at Canning Vale. Been looking at childcare too. Don't know specific nurseries yet but I do know that the amount of fees you pay is dependent on the income you receive and what subsidy you get from the goverment!

Have you been before? We have family there so been a few times now.

Gosh, I'd given up on any replies to this.

Yes, we're in Singapore so we've been there maybe 7 or 8 times. Great place.

We love it. Can't wait to go although we need to sell the house and that goes on the market tomorrow. Not happy at the valuation but the decision to go far outweighs that.

What's your plans? ANy thoughts on where you will be living? Have you had enough of Singapore? We were there last month en-route to and from Perth. Horrifically expensive!

We've been in Singapore 12 years now, so have had more than enough. It's a shame really as we've forgotten all the good stuff about it. And as you say a VERY expensive place to live these days.

I'm applying for a job, so if I get that we'll probably be going at the end of the year, but money will be tight. DH is going to try to persuade his employer to let him work from Perth, so fingers crossed.

We bought some land a few years ago and built on it (at Burns Beach)so we'll be living there. Only problem is paying the mortgage on an Aussie salary, but we'll manage.

Burns Beach is lovely. Good luck with your move.

We were so shocked at alcohol prices in Singapore. We're not big drinkers but like a glass of wine or a beer with dinner at night, especially on holiday. I think in the 5 nights before Perth and the 2 nights after when we were in Sinapore we spent more money that we did in Perth for 3.5 weeks!

We did splurge though on the way back and stayed at the Shangri-la. Fab!

Being just a tad anal, I've just done a spreadsheet comparing Perth and Singapore supermarket prices. Overall Perth is 40% cheaper, but I reckon red wine is about 75% cheaper and meat about 60%. The last few times we've been I've brought back a chill bag with vacuum packed steaks, lamb and even sausages, all ridiculous prices here.

Maybe we'll meet at a BE social next year.

How old are your kids? DS is 2.4

I have one boy and he's currently 10 months. I am hoping there will be a meet towards the end of the year too. I think a lot of the mums on BE meet in Joondalup once a week but there seems to be a bigger meet in Kings Park.
