Relationship counselling in France

Does anyone know about getting relationship counselling in France?

DH is reluctant, I know not a good start, but sites us not being able to afford it as a reason.
Does anyone know if we can be referred through the GP / will medical insurance cover it?

Alternatively is there something like Relate over here?

Many thanks for your help.

Most PMIs offer free, Relate-style relationship counselling. If you're in Paris there are also private English-language counsellors I could point you in the direction of, PM me if you like.

French men are very inclined to feel left out once children come along, IME

Oh FFS, what rubbish. Some do, some don't. Just like anywhere else in the world.

The social construct of marriage and family varies from country to country and culture to culture, Fluctuat.

Well yes I'm well aware of that, but Frenchness itself is a social construct that varies from region to region and class to class. Charles-Henri living in Auteuil and Mamadou living in Bondy or indeed Roger in Point-à-Pitre are all French but that doesn't mean their attitude to marriage is going to be identical.

The legal contracts that French couples can choose between to govern their relationships (and, admittedly, there is a range) are identical whether you are Charles-Henri or Mamadou or Roger.

FluctuatNecMergitur · 30/05/2018 10:29

Yes. What does that have to do with feeling left out when children come along? And the same could be said of marriage contracts elsewhere, so why should French men specifically be affected by the issue?

Anyway this is all a bit pointless, I didn't realise it was a zombie thread when I posted. If anyone should be reading this, go to your PMI and ask, they'll put you in touch with a free non-Lacanian marriage guidance counsellor.
