Any Mummies in Caratgena, Murcia?

DH, DD and I are out here for 6-8 months for DHs work and I'm madly missing mother and baby groups. I need to get out and chat and see DD play with other toddlers (she is 13 months)!

Is anyone out there?

I will be at our place in La Manga for a week soon and we are always in Cartagena. That won't be much use to you but I thought i'd say hi! How do you find it there?

LaTrucha · 05/02/2009 20:26

Well, I know it reasonably well as it is where my PILs live. I think it's fone for a holiday but I'm a bit at the lack of mother and baby things to do.

p.s. a place in LaManga sounds nice! Whereabouts?

Have to go to bed now (don't laugh: I've got a sick baby). Will still be in Cartagena tomorrow!

We are on the strip right at the end near the clover leaf so it's very quiet! We really love it there.

I ended up in the old Naval hospital in Cartagena once, it was scary. We go to the big Carrefour and to the new shopping centre and the waterfront bit. How lovely for you to be living there for a while, although it's a shame there are no groups to join. Do you get the free papers (we get them from the La Manga supermarkets, the Costa Calida Informer is one), as they usually advertise things to do and local groups, and it's an English paper.

Well i'm envious of you being there tomorrow! Hope your sick baby gets better soon.

LaTrucha · 06/02/2009 09:02

That's a good idea about the newspaper. NExt time I'm in LaManga I'll try and get one.

Do you know, I've never been that far down. We're usually around Las Sirenas.

Have you been to Cabo de Palos at the other end of LaManga? It's got a lovely ice cream parlour and is very pretty.

My MIL seems to go to that Carrefour every day!

Yes I love Cabo! We just drive around it, park up at the lighthouse and have a look around. I've not tried the ice cream parlour but i'll have a look. The Supermarket that has those free English papers is by the turning for Cabo, it's the Upper there, they are usually in the entrance bit.

I liked the Carrefour until I saw piglets in shrinkwrap in the freezer bit. Nice.

What's the weather doing out there at the moment? We are due to fly in a week tomorrow, woohoo.

LaTrucha · 06/02/2009 13:45

It's very changeable. Today it's sunny and about 18 degrees, yesterday it was grey and cold.

Much nicer than there though!

Absolutely! If we'd have been flying out today we'd not have made it as Bristol airport was shut all morning. 18 degrees will be better than 2!

I'm not in Murcia, but am in Spain!

You might find some sort of group if you go to one of the Asociaciones de Vecinos. Maybe ask MIL where your local one is.

But tbh Spain isn't really geared up for toddler groups.

Can you just co-incide with other parents at the playground. I seem to find that pre-school children pre-dominate from 11am-1pm. Then school-age kids start arriving.

LaTrucha · 06/02/2009 19:24

Good tips. Thanks. My FIL has just warned me NOT to meet any other mothers because they will call me up all the time and want to see me constantly. I don't think this is a comment on my personal charm, but a cultural one.

He is Spanish BTW.
