Does anyone live in Murcia - Can you help, please?

My parents recently moved to Murcia. They do not speak Spanish. My dad has injured his back and saw a GP here in the UK over Xmas. The GP diagnosed Sciatic Nerve and said he would need some physio.

Does anyone know of any english speaking physio's in the area of Murcia? He is in alot of pain and needs to get some treatment otherwise will return to UK.

We have a place outthere and go there often. I don't know of any but TBH we have found that many many people out there speak good english ( although DH speaks spanish they tend to jump in once they know you are english).

Why don't you google and try some. It has got to be worth a go.
The other option is to try at La Manga or one of the golf resorts - they are certain to have an on site physio .
La Manga is quite near

Where abouts do they live? My Mum lives in Mazarron and she pays a small monthly fee which covers her for a medical translator if she ever needs to attend medical appointments.
Do they know of any English groups in their area?
Near where my Mum lives is a huge urbanisation called Campasol which is largely inhabited by Brits and has an advisory centre for local English services, is there anything like that he could try?
Not much help really, but hope he doesn't have to come back.

psst

..

as they have moved their you might want to send them both a language course.......

My father in law had a bad accident in Spain a few years ago.If MIL had not had basic spanish she may not have been able to get him help in time. You really need to be able to cope with the language for emergencies

MrsOnTheMove · 08/01/2009 11:16

pagwatch - I totally agree. They have been planning this move for over 2.5 years - no excuse for not learning the language.

I've just spoken to my mum and I think it has hit home that they have sooooo much to learn.

In the meantime my 2 dd's greet them in Spanish and can say quite a bit, as they have been watching Dora practising as they thought Nanny and Grandad would no longer speak english

My Mum has lived in Spain on and off for six years, now there full time after Dad died. Her Spanish is appalling, and quite hilarious to see her dealing with people at town hall etc, but she makes herself understood and they really appreciate her broken Spanish.
My DDs learn Spanish here in UK, they learn phonetically rather than gramatically, We have learnt so much from them.

We have a place in La Manga but not in the club/resort in Los Belones, actually at the end of the strip. I had to make a trip to a scary Cartagena hospital not speaking a word of Spanish when I was bleeding when pregnant. We vowed after this to learn much more Spanish!

You could try the cards up with local services in the English Post Room in the plaza Comerciale in Los Alcazares - they're really helpful in there and would maybe know someone too as they've lived in the area of a few years.

Also, in Los Alcazares you'll find a few different free newspapers and magazines which may have some classifieds where you can find this kind of info out.

You'll also be able to find out about the medical translation services which are vital - I even managed to find one which is not just for medical things but say you break down or have a car accident and need to talk with the person with whom you've had the accident and they're Spanish, you can access translation services on your mobile so you can get everything sorted properly at the roadside - and they weren't expensive services, about 10 Euros a month for an on-call basis service.

Hope this helps.

I might be able to help, we are in the area, if you still need it! Let me know, you can contact me if you want on kitbit_spain at yahoo dot co dot uk

wheredidmyoldlifego where are you! I'm intrigued to find out if you are nearby, the post room is verrrrry close to me!

shootfromthehip · 14/01/2009 11:41

I love Los Alcazares (sorry for hyjack). My Mum has a place in La Zenia and I'm not hugely keen but Los Alcazares feels like Spain. What is the name of the restaurant with the courtyard on the beachfront? I love it there.

Hi Kitbit,

I am now back in the UK as our son was diagnosed with cancer on a trip back here las April. But we used to live on La Torre, one of the Polaris World complexes.
Love it. Loved Murcia. Loved the sun. Loved the life. Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Sad to be back here for so many reasons.

X

kitbit · 14/01/2009 11:51

hmmm.....sorry also for the hijack, but we're also thinking of moving back to UK for all sorts of reasons. Hope your son's OK WDMLG. At the moment moving just seems like the right thing to do for us but I am sure I'd miss it too. We're in Los Alcázares

shootfromthehip, it's La Encarnación

kitbit

Thank you for your reply, they managed to find some one last week. My dad has had one treatment already and is having another one Friday. Fortunately the Spanish physio spoke very good English
