Thanks Gabster for the inspiration for the thread!

Add your resolutions here & I can slip alongside and pretend I'll make some too.
Still too fragile - my sleep patterns go haywire when I'm home, stay up till 1 or 2am, then awake at 5am (6 here, usual flipping school time) then I come back & keep crashing on the sofa at 10pm and wake up at 4 bright & breezy.

We have snow, very pretty and h is off till Weds so am pushing him out for Streupflicht, bartered it for a fry-up with real English bacon, hmmmmmm.
Forecast is for -12C to -14C tonight - and when the children go back to school on Thursday. Yikes.

My old dentist back in Würzburg told me that I should get my wisdom teeth out as I kept getting infections. Luckily I then fell pregnant with DD so had an excuse not to get them out.

Our new dentist when we moved ot Ddorf told me that they could stay in as long as I was careful about brushing well. He said that if they were his teeth then he would keep them and that taking the out woudl be painful and unnecessary.

I am going with Dentist B's opinion.

Last night DH remembered about the 500euros Emergency cash that he had in a side pocket of his wallet. It is gone. I also noticed that the old purse that I have in my undies drawer has been searched. As has my undies drawer [shudder] so they obviously did go through the house.

Funny that they did not take the laptop though, it is brand new. AIBU to be a bit miffed that they considered my pride and joy not good enough to steal?

ZZZen · 03/02/2009 10:17

Sounds like they only wanted money and jewellery, things they could stash in their pockets and run with.

I wonder if getting one of those signs with "Vorsicht bissiger Hund" and a picture of a half-demented Rottweiler would do the trick?

ZZZen · 03/02/2009 10:18

my wisdom teeth never grew (which explains a lot) so I never had this problem. Dh had his taken out in hospital with the full anaesthetic because it was going to be a difficult job and that's what the dentist wanted

ErnestTheBavarian · 03/02/2009 10:29

MmeL, so sorry to hear of your break in.

ds offsick so I've been stuck in for 2 days, groan.

Was really looking to my weekend in London, exploring new areas, but now the entire country has shut down and collapsed under a bit of snow, I'm now seriously worried I won't be able to go and loose the money on my flight More snow is forecast, so looking dodgy. everyone cross their fingers pls

ZZZen · 03/02/2009 10:37

your flight has been cancelled then?

admylin · 03/02/2009 10:56

When would the flight be Ernest? Could have calmed down by then. I heard from home that teh snow and blizzardy weather was heading north west as of today so teh south might have opened up again. I hope you make it.

TheGabster hasn't been around, where is she moving back to again? Cambridge area wasn't it?

ZZZen · 03/02/2009 10:57

don't remember her having said admylin. Enjoying your break?

admylin · 03/02/2009 11:04

Not really, we're trying to do fractions with ds as that is coming up next in maths but he doesn't get it, well he gets the basic concept but doesn't get how to work with them any further - that's why I'm back online, meant to be searching for help! Dd is meant to be going to a friends house to practise her Vortrag about lungs for Friday. She's doing Asthma as her topic and the 4 of them have to stand and do it infront of the class. Back to school tomorrow anyway.

ZZZen · 03/02/2009 11:08

I found nice fraction worksheets online. Someone kindly pointed me to the website. Just have a quick look, dunno if I kept the link

Have you ever tried a maths CD-Rom?

ZZZen · 03/02/2009 11:10

one step at a time I think admylin, maybe his book rushes the concept too much

www.primaryresources.co.uk then go to fractions

ErnestTheBavarian · 03/02/2009 11:20

4 different forecasts for london say snow on friday, gah
flight not cancelled - that in a way would be good, inthat they have to sort me out, right?

sil said there's no way she'd be able to collect me if it's like it is today, so my fear would be actually being able to fly to london, but being stuck in airport, as public transport down, and roads inaccessible, so also not be able to drive round & see areas, which is whole point of visit. Felt ok till I spoke to sil, now she's made it sound doomed.

btw, what do you do when you fo on holiday wrt clearing the paths? We're going away in 3 weeks, and a neighbour works for Gemeinde - was actually driving snow plough, so thought he would be a good one to drop a hint to see if he would do it 'ask for advice', but he was just a grumpy arse who said we were obliged to do it even when we're away. So wtf do you do if you don't have helpful neighbours? ANd the man from the Gemeinde lives opposite?

MmeLindt · 03/02/2009 12:40

Ernest
Could you see if there is a local handyman who would clear the paths for you? We never bothered before if we were away but then never had a nosybod neighbour nearby either.

XXX fingers for no more snow. Funny how the country grinds to a halt when it snows. My mum said that she was out in the car yesterday and that their car "is no good in snow". I gently reminded her that it was not the car but the summer tyres that were the problem.

admylin · 03/02/2009 12:48

I was goint to suggest that too - there are people who will do it for you and then you can only hope there isn't too much snow, probably the less they have to clear the cheaper it'll be. It all adds to the cost of the holiday though doesn't it.

I hope you make it to UK Ernest then even if you can't get around to visit all your chosen villages, don't worry, you can spend the weekend going round shops! I'd be happy to be taken round a bog standard British supermarket and then a decent bookshop, what a treat!

ZZZen · 04/02/2009 09:34

Isn't there a teenage boy around in the neighbourhood a couple of doors down who would do it for a bit of cash?

ErnestTheBavarian · 04/02/2009 09:39

Rarely see any people in our street, only the old couple and the grumpy Gemeinde bloke opposite. I'm keeping my mind and eyes peeled for a likely person

thequietone · 04/02/2009 09:39

Morning everyone,
Mmelindt, I'm so sorry to hear about the break-in. Just relieved that noone was hurt. Hope you're getting over the shock now.

I'm in a rotten way. I think I might have sinusitis. I haven't been able to smell, taste or hear much for almost two weeks. I keep going into Rossmann to find something to clear this gack from my head. They love their nasal sprays, don't they? Does anyone know what I should be looking for? Honestly, I need to take mym dictionary into the shop to work out what I need.

Yes, I know I should really go to the GP, but I'm just loathed to go when it's just a nasty cold. It's got to shift soon, hasn't it? (Blows nose furiously for the umpteenth time)

admylin · 04/02/2009 09:44

I think inhaling might help, thequietone. I suffered from sinusitis quite alot and inhaling salt water (one doctor told me) is meant to help but I put tea tree oil in sometimes. Those nose sprays are great - teh ones from the pharmacy (Otriven I think) but you shouldn't use them for too long.

I know it looks awful but I sit with my vicks inhaler stick in my nose when I'm reading in the evening too!

ZZZen · 04/02/2009 09:46

oh you poor thing tqo, I hate those colds that won't shift. Maybe you've been feeling a bit stressed and your body is shrieking, "slow down and give me a break!"

Head over a steaming hot bowl? Is it better after a long soak in the bath? I sometimes used to have an Erkältungsbad which is like bath foam with herbs in it, smells very strong and you have to stay in for 10 minutes I think. When you come out you reek of pine needles and things and it totally knocks you out. You get a great night's sleep but I don't know if it really works. You get it in the medicine corner of places like Drospa and Schlecker.

ZZZen · 04/02/2009 09:48

feeling a bit fed-up (with myself today)

After-effect of a play-date at someone else's house. "Stay and we'll have a chat while the girls play"

I have never seen such a spotless home (utterly gleaming, everywhere, not a thing lying about. Kitchen almost blinds you, gleaming chrome everywhere)

thequietone · 04/02/2009 09:49

Hmmm, I did an inhalation with the bowl and towel etc. on Sunday and now I come to think of it, my taste and smell senses began to return on Monday. It's reverted back now, though. I think I might sign off for the mo and get my head under that towel again before baby wakes up.

ZZZen · 04/02/2009 09:49

-I'll bake you a cake ZZZen.
-No please don't, I'm trying to lose weight.
-OK I'll make it with wholemeal flour and don't worry ZZZen, I grind my flour myself.

I grind my flour myself...

People grind their own flour in their spotless gleaming kitchens?

admylin · 04/02/2009 09:51

Lol, I was at a house like that yesterday ZZZen! It always depresses me. I know she must have a cleaner, and a utility room to shove washing, ironing and mess into (I mean there was a cellar and 3 floors to this house) but it was so smart.

ZZZen · 04/02/2009 09:52

she doesn't have a cleaner. she has no ironing to do. She has nothing to hide, all the doors are open, everything is spotless. I tell you it gleams.

Her dd's artwork is FILED in the cellar. Filed. I bet the cellar even gleams

admylin · 04/02/2009 09:53

I bet she has a really sad life.

ZZZen · 04/02/2009 09:55

I've never been there before, I go in and she has this parquet floor (new, interlock look very nice) and she moans,
-I really hate this floor
-Why? It looks great
-It's terrible, scratches so easily. Look here
-I don't see anything
-But if you bend down like this with your head at an angle and if the sunlight is coming through really strongly, you can see scratches

OMG and my floorboards! Ha, what a joke
