even though she cannot answer in French.

I just listened to her speaking to DS in French, she was asking him if he speaks French. He answered "Non"

They are both getting on so well and I am so proud of them .

goodness that went fast, didn't it?! Great news. Is she smiling again these days?

That is fantastic, If they understand it all they will be talking in no time. I remember when I first came to UK I spent the first three month listening rather than speaking.(although I had learn English in school it was frighteningly different to actually hear people talking with an English accent rather than a Swiss one.)

I remember the first time I actually had a "proper" conversation in English and thinking while I was speaking .

How are you coping with Swiss/French as we do have our own little particularities sometimes?

Ssssanta
She is very cheerful at the moment, mainly because if the puppy I think.

I don't speak enough French to be able to distinguish between Swiss and French. I have noticed that our cleaner speaks much faster and is more difficult to undertand.

Good heavens that was quick! Brilliant.

Gorionine · 18/12/2008 21:32

You'll just wake up one morning and discover you can speak both...

You can be super proud of your children. Once they really speak french they will soon get you to speak it as well.

That's fantastic MmeLindt . You must be a little relieved, no?

MmeHereWeGoAWassailLindt · 18/12/2008 22:09

She will be translating for me soon.

Our French lessons start after the holidays. I can't wait to get started.

That's great, my dd(age 6 ) is in a French Immersion class here in Canada, she has been there since Sept and understands so much, she can also speak loads, we have great conversations and she's very experimental with the vocab she has, always making new sentences.
The most amazing thing for me is that she's reading and writing in FRench too. Your DC will progress even more as they will need French for social reasons, my dd only speaks french in the classroom
(I'm assuming that you live in France and not Canada like me)
