Hello!

I hope you don't mind, but I wanted to ask you something about a post you made in one of the overseas topics, but MN won't let me email/message you directly, so I've resorted to this way

You wrote that "Since coming to Spain, DH retrained as a teacher and now works in the local international school." and I just wanted to ask you a bit about how he went about doing that - it's something I'm thinking of doing myself so any tips or advice would be so appreciated.

Thank you!

There is lots of information on working in international schools on the TES website.

You might find useful stuff on the message section here.

Ooh, thank you very much FleurDelacour, that looks like an excellent website. Everything I'd found so far was about teaching English abroad, which is not what I'm interested in.

rebelmum, afaik, most international schools will take on a teacher who has a B.Ed or PGCE.

Australia, deffo, and Canada, I think, do not recognise the GTP but possibly every other country does.

Hi RebelMum - check out recruitment agencies such as Council of International Schools, International Schools Services and Search Associates. They have plenty of advice about the International schools circuit. There are job fairs in the UK and sleswheer - the main ones are in January/February but you may have missed the application deadlines. There is a second round in April/May as well. Schools advertise in newpapers like TES as well, and try to schedule interviews at the same time as they are in the UK for the fairs. To get a job in a decent school you need a BEd or PGCE at least. Pay and conditions vary - you should look at a school which has been acccredited by at least ECIS or MSA as they help to maintain standards. DP and I have been teaching in internationlas chools for the past twelve years - we met in one, in fact. Our kids are happy global nomads and we love life. Not everyone does, though!
