Anyone know of any international toddler type groups in Mexico city?

We're currently visiting dh's family in Mexico City for 3 weeks (just arrived) and am thinking about things to do. We of course have all the usual touristy things, but I'm trying to see if there are any toddler groups that maybe we could gatecrash go to (dd is 2 1/2)? All her cousins here are quite a bit older and we thought if possible it would be fun to meet other toddler families.

I don't know of any playgroups, but have you thought of the Papalote Museum.

www.papalote.org.mx/papalotemuseo/

the site is in Spanish. If you go let me know if you like it. Next time I go see my in-laws in Mexico City I want to check it out as ds1 was too little last time to enjoy it.

Oh and a day at the zoo at Chapultapec park or a Sunday on a boat at Xochimilco would also be fun.

Oh to go back soon!

Sorry - as always has taken me a while to get back!

Museum looks fab - we are going there on Tuesday, so will let you know how it was.

I don't deny it is nice to be here and escape the crappy winter weather

Always get surprised by the same stuff each visit though for some reason (how it is possible to eat too much citrus fruit and too much corn every day, deathwish traffic amongst other things!)

Hi ya, I was going to suggest the same museum!!
Also, chek out for any gymboree classes in the big shopping centres, they might let you do a one off.

Shame you are in Mexico city and not in a smaller town, I know it's really hard to move around with a toddler as you always have to be so self concious!

I haven't yet taken my 2yo DS to Mexico to see the family as I am a bit concerned about security (too many things happening to relatives)
Hope you have a good time and take care!

Ps let us know how you get on.

Hi! Thanks - we are now going to the museum next week instead. Possibly also the zoo. Went to Puebla yesterday and it was nice to get out of Mexico (and went to the safari there which dd loved!)

Paow - I also wished my in-laws lived in a much smaller town as I do feel imprisoned rather restricted here (with the effect somewhat compounded by bars on all the windows!) Mexico City is one scary city (especially since I was brought up in a small, quiet village in the UK!) It is a bit stressful with the security issue (not least because we live in a safe area and dd is used to relative freedom and is also very independent). I'm also having a hard time getting used to the lack of independence as there's an excellent public transport system where we live, so I think nothing of heading off with both children. Don't dare do that here (plus don't drive and wouldn't venture onto public transport on my own!)

Thanks for the tip though - will discuss it with dh (as he's thr native speaker and my Spanish is non existent somewhat limited!)

MKG - reporting back The museum is fab - definitely recommend it and not too boring for adults either! They do have some small areas for babies (ds is 8 months) but dd (2 1/2) really enjoyed it. Especially the bubble room (we had to go there 3 times - I suspect she could have spent the whole day in there ) We also saw Walt Disney's 'Fantasia' on the big cinema screen (dd was in awe - but that could also be because she had never been in a cinema before!) I would put a day aside for the museum if you do go because there are a lot of things to see and do (heaps of impressions) and some of things you have to wait for as only a certain amount of children can go in at one time (like the 'supermarket', making sweets, being a bus driver, the bubble room etc).

(We also had lunch on a boat at Xochimilco on another day and was lovely - love all the extra boats sidling up like the restaurant boat and the Mariachi boat )
